Hi all, first time posting! Something a little weird happened to me and I was wondering if this has ever happened to any of you...

I have always been a nervous flyer, however it has never stopped me from flying. Right before flying at one point in college, I had a weird dream with the number "18" in it and because of my fear of flying, somehow connected it to that. Since then, I have flown many times but have been rather fearful of flying on the 18th. Now, my family is taking a trip on Saturday (the 18th) and I am very nervous. Every time I convince myself one has nothing to do with the other and that I have NO precog ability whatsoever, something weird will happen to make me think otherwise. For example, within 5 minutes of my realizing I was flying on the 18th I turned on the tv and a movie about a plane crash was on. Since then, especially this week, many things along those lines have happened. In addition, I find other weird things happening, for example, I thought I saw someone totally random that I knew at the mall, it turned out not to be them, however 5 minutes later I saw that person. Or the other night I was thinking about a show I had not seen in years and two days later a friend of mine had a facebook post about that show. I try to tell myself that these are all just coincidences that I wouldn't have even noticed if I wasn't looking for a reason to test my "psychic" ability but I just wanted to know if this ever happens to any of you?

As I said, I'm flying on Saturday with my family and am just looking for a way to feel a little better about the flight.

Thanks!

Hi wolf06, Welcome! :welcome2:
The short answer, yes, the "omen" thing is extremely common and lots of folks have written about it here.
A search for key word "omen" turns up all these links...:D

Of course, if you really want to test your psychic abilities, maybe this would be a good
time to buy a lottery ticket. ;)

Indeed, it happened to me all the time until one day I realized I was deliberately turning random coincidences into "omens" so they would back up my original "omen."

You know what I mean ... you see a dead bird, so you relate that negatively to your flight. And then you think, "Well, maybe that's just a coincidence. If I see ANOTHER omen, then there must be something to it." And of course you find more, because you're looking for them now. Before your decision to look for them, they would have been random, but now they fit into your personal plan to continue being afraid to fly.

I totally agree with the above! We look for things to back up our pre-conceived ideas and fear.

Funny how we don't see anything like how many pilots made quiet, boring landings (thousands today alone in the U.S.) as an "omen". Just the "bad" stuff qualifies...LOL

I no longer see them now. I guess I lost my supposed pre-cog abilities along with my fear of flying as they were connected together. Oh well, it wasn't winning me the lottery anyway so I'm willing to let it go along with my fear! LOL

Its to do with Christmas. To plug up the gaps in the scedule all the old films come out, Airport '70,'75,'77. The sad thing is as my wife was reading out the film titles I replied back without looking up the aircraft involved ( Boeing 707, B757, B747).

Wow Royd I never thought about that... but your are right!!!!

LOL... Hollywood strikes again!!

As to "signs"

I had a dream last night about a High School teacher I had, and in fact didn't like very much. Now as I drove into work today I can think of about three things that I saw I could link to that dream. But one has nothing to do with the other.

Whether I had the dream or not I would have still seen these things. And the dream, I think, was due to looking at some old HS Yearbooks last night.

My point is you can link anything to anything if you look hard enough. You dreamed about "18". Have you ever thought that means that when your child turns 18 it will be a special day for you? Or perhaps on the 18th day of any given month something good happens at work? Again, one has nothing to do with the other. 18 is a common number.

When I played football my number was 8. I have always thought 8 was lucky for me. But as many normal or bad things happen associated with 8 as good, I just pay more attention to the good!

A family game when watching movies, how fast can I identify aircraft filmed. Finest moment 0.5 seconds of footage of a rudder Tristar (L1011). Score
