So, sometime in the not-so-distant future, maybe we'll be able to fly our cars to the airport before boarding a jetliner for a long-distance flight??

Do you have an air-strip in your garden?

(you are not allowed to take off from a random stretch of road.)

Hmmm...seems that rule kinda defeats the "flexibility" of the concept. I was imagining driving along, and being able to suddenly take off and fly over congested areas on the freeway...;)...and then come back down and continue driving, with the convenience of driving right up to the door of my destination.
Price is kind of a show-stopper too.:(

The idea is that you drive the plane as a car to a local general aviation field, convert it to a plane and take off from the runway. Fly to an airfield near your destination, convert back to a car and drive the last few miles to your destination.

It is several meters wider with wings extended and hitting a telephone pole during takeoff or landing run does seem pretty harmful to the pilot and passenger.

Of course. I was just being a little silly, though I do think it's a cool concept, no matter how impractical.
