Hi Im Dee a little bit about my story and fear, I have being on a plane twice before one was a good experience not a bother on me and the other to other people would have being a great flight but to me i was terrified, don't know why or what was causing it but I've being freaking out ever since. I've booked numerous amounts of flights but couldn't get on i even missed out on my own Honeymoon because of it... i was due to leaving on a cruise from Southampton but because i couldn't get on the plane i missed out on the ship.

I've even tried to get help from Keith Barry the magician but failed with that too. Im really desperate to get flying just don't know how to even get onto the plane my fear is that big.

Has anyone any tips or advice that helped them????????????

Hello and :welcome2:

We have no :magic: solution, but the good news is that you can collect a "bag of (mind) tricks" that will make getting on a plane much easier. A good start is to visit is http://www.anxieties.com/ , follow the "Fear of Flying" track and do the exercises. If you have questions about the tricks (or flying) don't hesitate to come back and ask them.

Thanks for that MathFox its a really good sight the only thing is I've being on 3 flying courses, read numerous amounts of books on it and still no Joy even took a flight simulator that pilots learn to fly in, i got on great with that and didn't panic but when it came to the real deal i couldn't bring myself to do it.

I'm really feeling like a lost cause now...

I'm really feeling like a lost cause now...:cry:Hi Dee, and welcome...
Couple thoughts...if you "got on great with the flight simulator"....maybe you are the type of person who would benefit from ground school to learn more about aviation, and then try some flying lessons. This would also give you the opportunity to become friends with some pilots,:ray: and you will learn more about the aviation world. Check out some of Aurora's posts http://www.takingflight.us/forums/search.php?searchid=15547 to see how interesting that can become! :D

Taking courses and reading books can all be helpful...the next step is taking some "action".
Rather than pressure yourself to immediately get on a plane, and fly somewhere, maybe give yourself much smaller goals that are easier to accomplish, and will help you build your confidence. For example, go to the airport and watch planes taking off and landing, and then go treat yourself to a snack in the restaurant (positive reward and all that...). ;) It may take awhile before you feel "the joy".

Something else to consider when you are feeling "stuck"...is there some BENEFIT you are getting from NOT flying? (e.g. someone you can avoid seeing because flying is the only way to get there? or you can't advance in your career because the next step requires flying...but really you don't WANT to advance, because it would mean too much time away from home, extra responsibility, etc. etc.)
