Well, I have had an interesting opportunity given to me: to perform my flying and caving songs at a NASA hangar party near Houston tomorrow afternoon and evening. There will be mission control specialists and astronauts there, including some of the guys in Max Q, the astronaut band.

I was going to fly a little airplane down to the private strip, but all the planes I usually rent are booked for another event, so my hosts are flying me into Houston on Southwest (Flight 1996, leaves 1PM tomorrow), and I'll come home Sunday. That's fine with me.

Y'know, I feel very lucky. I have no AA at all about flying commercially and have not had any for years, but I also have none of the ho-hum jadedness that I think a lot of "normal" fliers have (unless it's pretense  in service to being cool ). Best o' both worlds!

It was a hoot! I got to fly in (and fly) an RV-8 and an RV-6 (came home in that) and sang most of my flying and caving songs to a wonderful, appreciative audience. That's so satisfying. My hosts were the best, and I was given a NASA Flight Director patch by my host (who is one)--very rare item and a very high station at the agency.

Several astronauts were there also.

The flight on SWA was fine, but I gotta say, coming home in the RV-6 was finer.
