Yup. You read that right. We got from KC to Minneapolis in 55 minutes because the pilot was like....uhh...hang on we are just going to get you there.

The turbulence...was....violent. It was so bad, you could hear people gasp, and in my case, almost scream. I yelped, is more like it. The plane was slamming down, and then slamming to the right and left. It was like being on a rollar coaster. I had no idea that turbulence could be that bad.

Needless to say I was crying. It was a rather empty flight and the big guy in front of me turned around and asked me if I was ok - and another lady told me to just breathe.

But the whole flight was shaken. Everyone was speechless when we landed. Luckily I had taken xanex and had met the captain but it didnt help. He did come on the speaker ever 15 minutes if that tells you anything, and told us that it was going to be really bad but we would get there.

Ok - seriously. It was horrible. Horrible.

But...the good news. I made it. Whew. I thought I was going to throw up or pass out.

But I made it.

And I'm still flying back a week from Friday.

Whew.

What a ride.

In my flights and in my life, I would like a little less turbulence, thank you.

Vester,

I know what you mean about life being turbulent. (I'm not sure I WANT to know what you mean about the FLIGHT - hopefully I'll never have one that turbulent!) I wish I had a pithy lesson...like She Who Endures Turbulence Early in Life is GRanted Smooth Sailing Later. That would be nice, wouldn't it?

That's a good pithy lesson or a nice Native American name...
Vester, since a lot of this is about perspective I imagine after this it will take a lot of turbulence to freak you out...you have now made it through the dreaded kind of turbulence...
You are certainly right though. Enough already. You deserve a well earned break.

I have never experienced such conditions and would not know what to do except "hang on for the ride". Thanks for sharing since now I have some preparation for the unexpected! You did good!!! Hope I can, too!

That's terrilbe! Did the turbulence last the whole flight? Was it clear air turb or were there storms around? I'm glad you made it safely back to the ground!

Wishing you a smooth flight next time...

Sorry Mother Nature made your trip so tough....

The message here is the ride can be really horrible and yet the plane slogs on. For those who fear it may "go out of control," this is yet another example of when it did not.

Turbulence is no fun, but it is also nothing to worry about.

Hi Vester,

That sounds awful! What kind of plane was it? I am so impressed with how you are not even hesitating about getting back on a plane after this!

What Captain Ray said is exactly what I was thinking. This is a great reminder that turbulence can be scary and awful, but it is not dangerous.

Vester,

So sorry for the rough ride! Yikes!

But Ray is right... no problem for the plane!

If the plane could talk, it would most likely be saying "what's the big deal" :medplane

I too admire your commitment!

Well, to answer some questions.

No - there was NEVER any clear air. It really never smoothed out -- just had less turbulence at some times. We might have had a few minutes of no turbulence, but not much more than that.

It was a rather normal large plane. It was 3 seats on one side and 2 on the other.

And I think that if the plane could talk ... it would be like...."What the hell? I'm trying to fly here, what IS all this!!!"

It was scary scary scary. Seriously.

But I have a wedding rehearsal dinner to get back to at home on Friday and the last thing I want to do is drive 7 hours vs. flying an hour and 20 min. :beep

Thanks for all your support guys - you are always a source of support and strength for me :)
