Wonder if you can help? :)

I am flying to Zante from Doncaster with Thomson Airways in 2 weeks and have a fear of flying. Really it is the take off mostly and sometimes the landing.

Not sure why I have the fear - when I first flew I was a little apprehensive but certainly nothing like I am now. All the flights I have had (around 8 in total) have went fine and have flew from Newcastle (my local airport) and Manchester.

Think the fear is a little bit from claustrophobia as I do not like lifts either and a fear that the plane may stall when climbing from take off. When the plane is cruising I am usually fine! I have been prescribed some valium so hopefully that will take the edge off things.

Anyway - do you know what the route will be like to Zante and the type of plane it is likely to be? Also what is Zante airport like - is it somewhere where there will be a scary landing?:(

Have also posted this on one of the other boards.

Thanks

Iain

I see Lynda already responded to this question in Falcon's forum with real-life experience.

I've never been to Zante, but I know how to use Google image search...;) http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=zante+airport&gbv=2&aq=f&oq=
At least you can browse through the images and get an idea of the layout, map of the island, and a few photos of the airport.

Have you ever been to Greece before? I was there eons ago...would love to go again...someday...:D (only flew out of Athens...traveled by local ferry between other islands). Love the food, music, people...very fond memories of my time there.

Are you going for a holiday?

Thanks for replying and the link. Have seen Lynda's response as well. I am new to this board but have had a good read and have felt it very useful.

Yup, going for a holiday with my wife. Have been to Crete before - really enjoyed it - for the reasons you said! Incidentally had really good flights with Thomas Cook - was the first time I flew so didn't know what to expect.

Since then I have got more nervous with each flight. Not sure why. Get most nervous when waiting in departure lounge and when boarding, sitting on the plane, push back, taxiing and then take off.

Manage to calm down when plane is cruising before getting nervous (but not as much as before) when landing.
