Ok... we climb onboard these aircraft... but what is a jet engine anyways? This diagram may help to explain what they do. By the way... the "jet engine" has been around for a Loooong time.

If you find yourself on a turboprop...

Notice something about the turboprop engine snd the others? They're the same! A lot of people feel weird about flying on "prop planes" but I just thought I'd point out that the biggest difference between a jet engine and a turboprop engine is that a turboprop drives a propeller and the jet engine drives a fan. That's about it. Heck, they all even burn Jet fuel!

Quite right a turbo prop uses a jet engine which through a gear box runs a propeller which is more efficient at lower speeds and altitudes.
