I have read a little bit about Rudder problems on the Boing 737 and was woundering if it still exists? I am terrified of flying and will fly to Mexico in February with a Boing 737-300 or 737-800 with my family from Calgary. Any input is appreciated. Thanks and best wishes.

Could you be more specific? (Point to a specific incident or publication.)

The FAA and their counterparts monitor the performance of all commercial plane types. If needed they'll order that all planes of a certain type are grounded for inspection or repairs.

could be talking about the united and the USair flights that crashed because a rudder didn't turn the way the pilots wanted near landing but they have researched it and taught pilots how to react to thoser things now.

Thanks, yes, I am referring to the last two crashes!!! When searching on the internet it is not clear whether the rudder problem had been fixed or not. I used to fly a lot, since I have the kids, I am terrified and watching documentaries on crashes do not help.

Thanks again for your help. :)

All the 737's that I fly have been modified to prevent the kind of accidents that you are talking about, and I would suspect most airlines have completed the mod since it has been a high priority item. Solving the USAir accident required a few years of high tech sleuthing that resulted in a successful change to the design of the internal workings of the rudder. As I have mentioned here in the past, the 737 is extremely safe and the pilots love to fly them.

Have a good trip.
