Hi, I am new to this site and have decided to join after years of being terrified of flying. We have booked a flight with Ryanair to Futreventura for the 20th November and I am so scared I feel sick. I am worried about their safety standards and things I have read about them on the internet. I am not bothered about the lack of food ect its the safety aspect that worries me.
Can any one reassure me that it will be ok?
Thanks

All airlines need to have a certificate of operation from their national CAA (the Irish, in case of Ryanair). The most important part of the certification process is to make sure that the airline is (demonstrably) flying safe. A lot of paperwork to prove that their planes are airworthy, maintained according to schedule, by certified engineers; that pilots and flight attendants are properly trained, do their recurrent training, have valid medical certificates, etc. etc. At any random point in time Ryanair must be able to show the correct safety paperwork, the same as AerLingus and not much different from that of the major EU airlines.
Messing with the paperwork is a quick way to lose your job (and in bad cases have unpleasant meetings with the authorities). So people at budget airlines follow the safety rules. Same with the people at the big carriers. Result: you can take two flights a day for every day of your life without even being in a small accident. Compare that with an average life of commuting by car.

MathFox is right they cannot cut corners with saftey by law. They have had no accidents in their history and will get you there on time.
Ryanair aren't that bad - they have the same laws to follow as everyone else. The planes are all built the same too - it's better to research the actual plane first, such as a 777 or A380 for example, rather than going straight to the airline.
Compare different airlines. A British Airways version of your plane may have immaculate records - it's still the same plane!
Don't judge a plane by the airline (:
