1. We don't answer questions about medication here, discuss that with your doctor. He is the professional and knows you better than we do. (If you are unsure of the (side-)effects of Xanax, you can try one dose in the safety of your home, a few days before you leave.)
2. Relax. Do breathing and relaxation exercises, consider taking up Yoga. Stop imagining scary things. There is a lot to read at www.anxieties.com and they provide some very useful tricks to relax too. If you want to change yourself, you can do it!:hyped:

Hi, brave guy!
I know that you feel that your fear is unique, but in fact it is just a slight twist on a common fear for fearful fliers. Many of us believe that for whatever reason, including but not limited to God, our flight will be the one to go down.
Before I beat my fear of flying, I used to feel that way, and I was not above pinning it on God. I frequently did so.
But let me ask you (as I asked myself), why would God take down all those other people just to finish you off? Please don't be insulted by this question; I think that if you can ask yourself honestly why God would do this, you might get an aha! (very empowering) about it and be better able to dismiss it as absurd. Consider challenging God to find a more fair and efficient way to show you His displeasure.
:thundercl <--this is the classic way ;)
If there are spiritual issues in your life, you might also consider visiting your pastor or priest. That's what they are there for.
Seriously, please spend some time at anxieties.com as Mathfox suggests, and try to get a better understanding of your anxiety. FoF can pop up seemingly out of the blue, even for people who have flown happily and extensively. It becomes a stand-in for other anxieties and stressors (even good ones, like a new baby, a marriage, a new relationship or job).
Medications can be helpful if used properly, but are most helpful when used as a facilitator for other counterphobic strategies, and when used as a stepping-stone to unmedicated flying.

Hi Brave guy, and welcome to Taking Flight!
Exercise helps me feel better, and reduces anxiety before my flights. I like to get to the airport early, and walk around the terminal for an hour or so before the flight.
Generally it's recommended to discuss an exercise program with your physician before starting it, to be sure that it is safe for you. The Dr. can check your heart too, and you can ask him/her any questions that concern you about anxiety and panic attacks, and if they can cause heart attacks.
I hope that you will find some useful ideas here at Taking Flight, as well as at www.anxieties.com (http://www.anxieties.com). Are there any fear of flying programs sponsored by the airlines in Istanbul? I assume that is where you live.
You Tube is also a great resource. If you do a search on "Istanbul Airport", you can find numerous videos of landing and taking off there. Here's one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3wEpprklko
Here's a cool one of the Airbus 380 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0K_wByDFqg&feature=related
Watching take off and landing videos is one way to "practice" flying, remember what it's like, work on your breathing and muscle relaxation, your thoughts, and keeping yourself calm.
Do you know what plane you will be flying on in two weeks?
