A great "inside aviation" resource for airports can be found at www.airnav.com/airports/us (http://www.airnav.com/airports/us)
This website will give you ALL airports within a particular state. This website is designed for General Aviation pilots deciding what airport to land at, but FOF passengers can benefit as I describe below.
Click on the airport of interest within the state, and you will get the following information:
Location of airport
Airport operations given from a pilots perspective
Airport services such as fuel, cars, restaurants
Runway lengths -- This is real good for FOF's as you can somewhat anticipate what kind of landing to expect. The shorter the runway, the quicker the airplane needs to stop. The quicker the plane stops, the more important that seatbelt becomes :pray
Airport Statistics -- Another good feature for FOF's as you can decide what airport may be more prone to delays, naturally, the busier the airport, the better chance of a delay.
Airport procedures for flying into the airport. On another thread, there was a mention of "approach plates".
An approach plate is a procedure pilots use while getting to the airport in cloudy conditions. These procedures allow for an organized way of arranging airplane traffic in and out of the airport when you cannot see out your window.
Airports located nearby your airport you select. Sometimes a GA pilot may not want to land on a short runway, and this website will show nearby airports and how far it is from the primary airport.
I personally use this website to decide where to land at a particular airport. Some airports have different locations to choose from. Some locations have "courtesy cars" or rental cars.
Hope you find this site informational!
