Boeing 747 Safety Upgrade

Here's a link to an article announcing the new requirement for all aircraft with center fuel tanks to be retrofitted with oxygen-replacement systems. These systems replace oxygen in an empty or partially empty fuel tank with nitrogen to prevent explosions. Just another way that air travel is becoming safer (and a big worry off of me, because I stupidly watched the CNN special about this problem a few years back).

They have been doing this progressively since the TWA 800 incident... which I believe was in 1996... 12 years.

As usual we hear about the bad news quick, but the good news comes slow!
