Cathay and safety

I am flying from Stockholm to London with BA, from there I am taking a Cathay flight to Hongkong. Usually I fly Finnair when gong to Asia, mostly because I am terrifyed of flying (I panic through every flight!) and I understand that they are very good with safety. How safe are Cathay Pacific and BA?? Compared to Finnair?

Cathay is just fine. Even though they're "officially" a Chinese flag carrier (registrations carry the B prefix), they used to be a British flag carrier, before Hong Kong was turned over to the Chinese a few years ago. A bunch of their pilots are actually British folks who started with them before HK was part of China. British Airways is just fine as well. I've always heard decent things about Finnair too. I figure if their pilots can land in Helsinki in December, they must be good.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry at all stepping on one Cathay or BA planes.
