I thought it would be a good idea to post airlines we like so that others may try them and maybe have a better trip. I have flown on Southwest, AA, Frontier and Mexicana.
I like Frontier because:
Seat back video, tracker
Leather seats
Clean new planes
Friendly customer service
Cute pilots :)
Animal mascots on planes wings and tails
I like Mexicana because:
As much free Alcohol as you want ( and they pour it from bottles like at a bar)
Free lunches that are actually full meals
On time
Nice planes
AA and Southwest are ok, AA is the typical big airline and Southwest is good for a quick flight. My worst flight was on Southwest so I am not too into them but i know I have to give them another try.
I really want to fly Jet Blue or Virgin America next.

I have taken quite a few flights (on different airlines) and in my impression the US major airlines (US, UA, DL, NW) compare in quality to the European budget airlines (buy your own food). The two transatlantic flights I had with AA had somewhat better service than comparable US, UA, NW flights. SWA stands out in being more relaxed and very efficient. I consider all US airlines I flew with "competent in getting you to your destination".
The airline I fly most is KLM (living close to AMS...); it is generally more relaxed than the US airlines I've flown with, good service on average, but one risks to meet an inattentive cabin crew once in a while. BA does better in that respect, but luggage handling at LHR fails too often. Qantas is one of the better airlines I've flown with too; compares with BA.
And last but not least, I do consider the French TGV (high speed train). It may run slower than a plane, but you win hours in check-in and connection times. :) Seat comfort in economy class is better too.
There is a flight coming up for June 8th.... My boss wants me to be in San Francisco, that will be over 10 hours quality time with KLM.

My favourite UK airline is BMI, I just remember the fantastic cabin crew sitting by me during the time when my fear was very bad during turbulence. ( PE cabin half full) Sat behind me was a BMI pilot who explained the cloud formation and why we were bumping around.
They were so good that when I refused my meal ( due to fear) they sent the first class onboard chef to me, he offered to make me fresh soup or anything else I would eat.
( This has just reminded me of how bad I used to be)
Virgin is the airline I fly on most to US , good airline, premium cabin service is great but I hear it is not always so good in economy. I also like flying on the 747.
American airlines we have flown with are
Continental, AA , US airways, United and Delta. my favourite was Continental as I liked the 777, next was AA as they upgraded us to FC.
Favourite planes.
747
777
767
least favourite was the 737/800 charter when we went to Corfu in May, it felt very cramped and the noises were unfamiliar to me as we have not flown on a 737 for many years

Let's see....
American
U.S. Air
Northwest
Continental
United
Southwest
British Air
Virgin Atlantic
Delta
I can't say anything bad about any of them. In my experience they all did what I paid them to do... get me from A to B safely!
As for favorites... I would say Southwest and Virgin Atlantic... both for the same reason... they made the trip "fun". Joking around etc.
When I first started flying again, it was on Southwest. They were EXTREMELY patient and compassionate with me. It was a Southwest Flight Attendant that came up with the idea to have me pass out snacks during the flight to help me take my mind off of flying! I have to tell you that was a hoot!

Since I (kind of) live on the west coast, I'm on Southwest just about every week or two. I've done snack duty on Southwest too--it was "punishment" for begging to put my camera bag in the overhead space on the plane; the space where the snacks lived. I really do love that airline, even if I have to routinely connect in Las Vegas. Since I used to live in Oregon, I'm a big fan of Alaska Airlines as well. I recently started flying them more, since their prices are competitive with Southwest on many of the routes I'm on.
I miss the airlines of yesteryear, PSA, AirCal and Reno Air. I was a regular on AirCal growing up, as well as Reno Air when I flew between San Jose and LA or Portland.

my number one slot has to go to Singapore Airlines Raffles Class on the 777.
I was lucky enough to fly in Raffles with them from Manchester to Singapore - Singapore - Jakarta, back from Jakarta - Singapore then Singapore to Sydney followed by Sydney - Singapore and Singapore - Manchester.
Superb service which has never been matched.
Other favourites are Virgin, Delta, Continental, BMi and deffo bottom of the pile is BA, the worst travelling experience ever !

I am flying Southwest for the first time tomorrow. Am glad to see the positive feedback about their flights. Have flown Delta, USAir, Continental/Piedmont in the past. Delta was so-so but the seatback video, tracker gave me a great amount of peace of mind two years ago during my last flight - sounds weird but seeing our height remain relatively constant, speed remain constant and how far we traveled was comforting. USAir used to be fine to travel with but its been many years since I flew with them. Continental/Piedmont - I wasn't happy with but that was 19 years ago. Chose Southwest this time around because they only fly 737 and Continental actually wanted to put me on some sort of airbus and/or prop job - NOPE! Not me! I'd rather walk from NJ to RI than take a prop job. I plan on bringing my This Is Your Captain Speaking book with me again as well. That was the best investment I ever made and i owe it all to Taking Flight for their recommendation years ago.
Wish me luck!

Westjet first, and then Air Canada.
Oh, wait, that's the only two choices I have here in Canada! LOL
Both have been excellent to me when I fly, and have done whatever they could to make me feel comfortable. I just like Westjet more because they are a little more "laid back" in the cabin, (joking around on announcements, etc.) They suit my own personality more.
