When the pilot's announce for people to get back in their seats or when they make any announcements, can't they simply add "there's no reason for alarm" or "don't worry, this is standard safety precaution." I think that would help alot of us who are hypervigilant. It would also help people who don't even have fear of flying. It almost seems like the attitude doctor's have. The stereotypical bad bedside manner, not explaining anything to the patient because it's too technical. But really, all we want is reassurance. Thank you for your response.

My experience is that the pilot's are usually pretty good at explaining why they are seating us (descending, turbulence up ahead, etc...). However, pilot's have it tough because the most profitable clients (first and business class) are usually frequent and/or business flyers who don't like to hear the pilot talking all the time. In order to cater to them, I think a lot of pilot's have gotten quiet and only speak when absolutely needed and are as quick as they can be.

Ok, so this is really off topic, but this is just too good to pass up!

This clip from Monty Python is appropriate for this question. It'll make you fall out of your chair. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJSey8HRUhU

LOL...I always have wondered what pilot's do when they are bored (the case on 99% of flights I am sure).

Thanks for the link!

Hi Katyk,

That's an idea to think about. I'll see if I can add some words of reassurance to my announcements whenever there could be some doubt.

Thanks, :tiphat:
