Today in the Wall Street Journal was an in depth report on wide bodied and 747 engine cessation that, although rare, actually has occurred more than thought. They feel due to micro ice crystals in engine. So you guys have families- how do you as a pilot process this information. I think the non-pilot public wonders that the next time they are on a wide body are the engines going to cease temporarily. What keeps you guys climbing into the cockpit?

Forewarned is forearmed. If something hits the press about our aircraft (737 in my case) we start digging. Usually we have recieved bulletins from Boeing well in advance of press releases. Anything just adds to our "What If? " file.

Hi veejayy,
First we note that we or the airplane has been flying a long time with very few incidences and that with our training and experience we should be able to handle any emergency that comes up. Then we note that the media tends to blow most things out of proportion and most stories contain several errors. Most of our own information from the airline is current and accurate and will cover any procedures that we need to know.
Thanks for the question!
