Hello all,

I've been visiting airliners.net for a while, because as much as I am afraid of planes, I am also absolutely fascinated by them. And it got me thinking... Do we just need to reconnect back to our inner child? I don't know if anyone has had a fear of flying as a child, but it wasn't me. I used to live 2 minutes from an airport, and could see airplanes touch down and take off from my 7th floor window. It wasn't a big airport, and there weren't that many flights daily. But I always found it so exciting. There was something so wonderous about it. Similarly, I was not afraid to take my first flight at 13. I thought it was absolutely magical to actually see the plane out there, floating in the air.

This youtube ad illustrates the FEELING I'd like to get back nicely:

Great video!

Why can't we be more like children? There is a lot to be said about that. Looking at life through a child's eyes is something every adult should do every now and then!

As for "Getting back the FEELING"...

Think about how almost magical it is that a commercial airline can transport you from one time zone to another. One environment to another, one civilization to another!

I wonder what the pioneers, who fought every peril imaginable would think about modern air transportation!

The last time I flew, after the plane was safely up in the air ;) I did manage to steal a glance out the window....and another and another until the kids were fighting with me over the window seat!
I found the experience of looking down to be absolutely AMAZING and for moments at a time I was completely absorbed in my own sense of 'child like wonder" and completely forgot about being scared.
I mean....gosh, those clouds were just absolutely beautiful!
And looking down over the Great Australian Bight and seeing tiny weeny little ships on the ocean down there....and mountain ranges and desert areas etc.
It was simply incredible.
The little bits of what looks like ice? forming on the window kinda made me jittery though and I didn't much like looking at the wing but straight down was enthralling. :)

Yup. One of my favorite quotes is from William Langewische: "How can you not fly when you live in a time in history when you can fly?"

Every time you get on that plane, you're fulfilling the dreams of your ancestors.

I was on an early morning flight years ago. It was cloudy in Houston, but as we broke the clouds and settled in to cruise I caught a sunrise. It was gorgeous. I though to myself not many people see it quite like this. That was viewed with almost childlike eyes,.
