I'm trying to focus on visiting Disneyland to get me over that hurdle of picking up the phone and making the plane reservations. I bought Birnbaum's book last Friday and read through it. I've been to Disneyworld a few times but never Disneyland. The California Adventure side of the park sounds neat.

I need to do this trip for Mike's grandma's sake and also to get some photos and video of my girls with their great-grandma. I'm very concerned about providing a history for them as their Chinese history will always be unknown. But that @#%#$ flight out to LA creeps me out. I HATE it. My least favorite flight of all. I've done it so many times, I can almost look out the window and just from the scenery, tell you how many minutes we are into the flight. Nothing is so beautiful as seeing the outskirts of LA since that means we have almost made it.

I think I'm gonna force myself to make the reservations after T'giving. Maybe I'll be in a tryptophan induced coma and can call Continental without breaking down in tears.

Howdy!

Yep been there, as it is only about 25 miles from me!

Been to Disneyworld also. The main parks are twins. If you can navigate around one, you will be able to navigate around the other.

The California Adventure is great, I highly recommend it.

I also recommend Universal Studios while you are here, and the City Walk.

And of course we have Hollywood. Just be sure to leave before dark!

I have been to Disneyworld as a matter of fact.

Flew there (Orlando, FL) from New Jersey.

I was terrified out of my head for the whole flight, which was on my favorite plane (737) and it was the smoothest ride I ever had.

My wife 4 days before and for all the 4 days up to the day of the flight was ADAMANT about us going. "We can't let fear control our lives" she said. She repeated it about 60 times a day like a broken record to all my crying and whining and huffing and puffing. No moving her from it. She almost dragged me to the airport.

The flight was empty other than me, my wife and about 10 people which looked as terrifed as I was (except for my wife, which as her usual, was UTTERLY indifferent and slept throughout).

The airport was deserted. The rental car place was a wasteland. 15 people serving 2 (me and my wife). They gave us a red mustang for the price of a Ford Escort. Since nobody else was driving.

Surreal.

The day we flew to Orlando was September 15, 2001. It was the second day the FAA re-opened the skies. We didn't really fly on our flight. We just jumped on the first flight available that was going from Newark to Orlando. Nobody else was flying anyway. Planes were empty and plenty.

Now I am grateful she forced me to go, because during that weekend, aside for the fact we had Disneyworld all to ourselves, I went up in a Nascar racecar in one of them 1800-BE-PETTY experience thingies.

Nothing like driving a gigantic car on an oval at 130 mph. :hyped (Do we have a confederate flag smilie?)

Beth,

GO and have a great time. We go to Disneyland a few times a year with the band - love the Matterhorn!

DL is smaller than WDW but still lots of fun. Your girls will have a BLAST!

I loved Disneyland! I actually liked it better than Disney World. The California Adventure thing wasn't there when I went (I was 10), but I had a great time.

And, interesting (for me anyway) trivia fact. The man who designed the Matterhorn ride is named Bill Rasmussen and a distant relative of mine. How, I don't know, but my mom hears from him occasionally.

Hollyweird is kinda scary after dark. I went there with another couple, it got dark and the fun began! These two huge guys followed us and it seemed they were talking about our wives.. My wife was scared and told me not to do anything as I would surely die. I finally got fed up and turned around and asked "are you talking to me? You like my ass?" Luckily (for me) they shrugged it off and stopped harassing us. It isnt a good place to be at night.

DISNEYLAND!!! Been there every year at least once for most of my life.. Like Mark, I've always been close to it. The last few years I haven't gone because the prices are obscene. So my family gets season passes for Magic Mountain instead. Its a little cheaper than spending 1 day at Disneyland.. Plus I am a big fan of Halloween and MM has fright fest.
Agree with Mark about going to Universal. One of a kind experience.

Knotts Berry Farm is nearby as well. If you get over there, go across the street to "Ripleys believe it or not" museum. Very fun!!

Another idea while in town is the Hertz castle.

Too much to see here to not just get on that plane and get over here!!!

Happy turkey day :mickey

I've been to both Disneyland (many times) and Disneyworld (just once). In my opinion, Disneyland is better. It seems bigger to me and also cleaner (Disneyworld tends to be a little "sticky" in July!). Haven't been to CA Adventure yet, but we're thinking of going next year, although my husband still hasn't recovered from our last trip to Disneyland four years ago. It was Christmas week and the park sold out twice in the three days we were there. It's only sold out a total of five times in its entire history, so that gives you an idea of how many people were there when we were. Too many!
