Cpt Hutch, with your experience in the 737 world, do I have anythng to fear from a 737-200? My wife and I are going to HI next year and after our flight from Chicago (on a 777) we board an Aloha 737-200. Should we have any worries? What about the crj-200 from Green Bay to Chicago? Do you have any experiences there?
Thanks!!

Hi Highlander,
No, you have nothing to fear. I haven't added it up, but I have maybe 8,000--10,000 hours in the 737-200 and I believe it to be one of the sturdiest and safest aircraft around. It is really easy to fly under all sorts of conditions. I have some first hand examples and real life stories of what a workhorse it really is that sometime I could relate if you're interested.
I have no flying time in the CRJ-200 and I do not know anything about it.
Have a good trip!
Captain Hutch

Take earplugs if you are seated in the back of the plane. The 200 is a wee bit noisy.

Fortunately, we are sitting in row 5 (C,D) on the crj-200. Couldn't book the 737-200 seating. On the 777-200 we are in row 31 (H,J). I understand sitting on the wings or further forward is the area with the least "bouncing" .
Its good to read the positive feed back on the 737-200. I'm still a little uneasy with the whole trip. I guess it is a trust thing. Trust in the airplane and giving up control to someone and something a know little to nothing about. I'm trying to reassure myself that all is well and that I need to move on to things that are more important, like sunscreen, choice of wine, and time with my wife.

RJ200 is fine--especially for that short of a flight. I used to fly on them for 2-2.5 hour flights. They get cramped and the windows aren't exactly in the best location, but the plane is fine. Like a private jet...with screaming babies.
The 732 is a good airplane too. I second the earplugs, especially if you're over the back part of the wing. I don't recall, but I think Aloha's island hoppers might be open seating? Regardless it'll probably be a 20 minute flight. Enjoy the scenery.

Good point about the earplugs. In fact, I try to use earplugs wherever I sit, front or back, on any airplane! :)

I flew a -200 from Atlanta to Birmingham. I think they are slightly older models and the inside looked a bit dated, but the ride was basically indistinguishable from any 737 I've been on. It freaked me out to think that my plane might be older, but several people reminded me that just meant it was reliable, and had stood the test of time. Then I started worrying about the newer planes I flew on, proving that there's absolutely no logic to any of my worrying.
You will do fine on the -200. I'm curious to hear about your CRJ ride...that is my next thing I want to tackle in the world of flying. I have only flown on big planes thus far.
