Hello, glad you posted. Disneyland no kids, no hubbies? Hmm think it is Orlando that needs to be nervous.
There are alot of people here who have walked on your shoes and will be glad to pass on their experiences. Capt Hutch and me are on hand to answer any technical questions you may have.
Don't get the DVD reference.

Howdy!!!

And Welcome Aboard Taking Flight!!!!

As for words of encouragement...

First... terrorism. There are more "soft" targets than your flight. I would be more nervous about a large sporting event, or any type of large public gathering.

Especially a domestic flight like you are speaking of.

As for crashing... How many airliners in the US, Canada, and Europe crashed today??? How many cars crash (with fatal injuries) in the US, Canada, and Europe?

The odds are strongly in you favor! You just have to trust the folks up front, and realize that like Royd who answered you above... they all have families and loved ones that they care about. They don't want to crash either!

Again... Welcome aboard! Say hello to Mickey!!!

Welcome to Takingflight, we are here to help!!

I have flown many times to Orlando from the UK, it is one of our favourite destinations.

Concentrate on your destination and let the pilot take care of the flight.
Read as much as you can on flying. start by reading the posts on this board.
Like Mark said there are much easier targets now than a plane if terrorist wanted to strike.

thanks for the warm welcome!! i will be reading these boards ALOT before we go! i found about this site from over at the "disboards", i'm such a disney geek!
i've flown 1 other time in my life.....i was only 10 years old. (a LONG time ago) my aunt and uncle took me to the florida keys. we flew 1st class from grand rapids, michigan to miami....then on a puddle jumper to marathon key. i HATED the little plane! i even have pictures of myself sitting in the cockpit of the 747! wow! bet thats not possible these days! i don't remember anything bad about the flight, but as i got older, the thought of flying has just scared the bee-jeebies :cry:outta me! i am a control freak, i admit that...that is probably a big part of my problem. if the pilot would just let me sit up front with him to make sure he is doing everything ok, then i'm sure i would be less nervous!
i HAVE to do this....and i will probably be asking lots of questions, so beware!! the trip is paid for and the plane tickets are in my dresser drawer! looking :eek:at the tickets scares me a little. probably b/c i know it's a done deal

again, thanks for the welcome....see ya soon!

Hi Shelly,

Another welcome here!
I have had some of the same concerns as you.Not so much about terrorism, but more about crashing. The old saying, "knowledge is power" is true. The more I read (Including flying w/o fear, these boards, and other web resources), the more I came to understand about the redundant systems that the airlines and FAA implement for safety.

I can also completely relate to your control nature. I'm the same. I'd be more comfortable if the airlines would implement cockpit cams, so that I can keep an eye on things - not that I would actually be able to tell what they were doing. (I do remember one of my flights, on United I think, where you could tune the in-flight radio to channel 9 and listen to cockpit communications. that was nice).

I just flew Airtran for the first time a couple of months ago from Tampa to Akron/Canton, OH and back. I was concerned about flying what I considered a "budget" airline. They were great! Very friendly, competent and had nice new equipment:thumbsup:. My mother-in-law has flown them a number of times and really enjoys them - and she's picky. You should have no worries about them.
