Interesting article on mindfulness meditation, research at UCLA, supported by the National Institute of Mental Health. "A new brain imaging study by UCLA psychologists reveals why verbalizing our feelings makes our sadness, anger and pain less intense"

Creswell said Lieberman has now shown in a series of studies that simply labeling emotions turns down the amygdala alarm center response in the brain that triggers negative feelings.
This also ratifies the concept of The Supportive Observer, which I first encountered in Reid Wilson's book Don't Panic. While this observer isn't exactly rambling on about what the amygdala is and does , she is providing objectivity about the situation and the feelings one has as well as optimism, trust, hope, confidence, and solutions.
