Hi

Just wondered if you have ever flown to Corfu and if you can explain why the landing felt so different.
The plane was a 767
The plane appeared to descend really very quickly and came down with a real bump, The speed appeared to be really fast and for the first time ever I did not think we would stop in time. The landing had Patrick worried too. A number of passengers were visibly upset by it.
I have been to Corfu before but do not remember this happening.

Thanks

Just a hunch but the things might not be linked. The drop and heavy landing first. One of the things that can catch us out especialy in hot places is thermals and wind direction and speed changing close to the ground. A tidy approach can in the last few moments loose the head wind 50 feet above the runway and bump. The nasty ones have a healthy wind around the control tower, which is the wind given to us, and little wind at the runway.

The faster than normal journey down the runway could be a couple of things. Heavier aircraft (aircraft close to their Max landing wieght) will land at a faster speed and take more stopping. Landing and not making much effort to stop is a trick we use alot. If we know we are going to park at a certain spot we try to come off the runway as close to this point as possible, we use the momentum of the aircraft to minimise the time on the runway. Done properly your passengers wont look up from their papers, be abit ham fisted with the brakes or reverse thrust and passengers get moved about in a way they feel isnt right.
