Hi Gang!

With my newfound power, (i.e. beating FOF) I'm considering some trips my company offers if I hit my goals. One place I'd like to go is Europe, b/c there are some beautiful golf courses there I'd like to play on. How do you cope on a long flight? Sleeping pills? Video games? Are the planes bigger sized on long flights? Will they play a movie? How long will an ipod last without being charged? How many Gs are we experiencing during a regular plane flight? Will an alternative fuel source ever be feasible or necessary in the airline industry? Feel free to answer only one or two questions if you want, I'm a very question asking person. Congrats to all who are flying right now!

I always fly back to Asia which is around 12 hours long so I think I can answer you.
I am sure your flight will show movies/tv series and so on.The majority of the airlines provides individual entertainment sets. You wont be bored at all if they do cos theres like 20 different movies and a lot of tv series and cartoons. If not,its gonna be so boring(like I fly back in dec with Northwest). But I know it in advance so I bring my own laptop to watch some dvds.
Do bring some books.make sure its your type of books though or else you wont really feel like reading.
Have fun with your trip!

I know on Continental, they do everything they can to keep you entertained on the flight. They feed you, you have your own TV screen, they feed you more...

Sleep is alwasy great too. Or if you have a big project you've been putting off, it coud be a good time to do it.

When thinking of what to bring on my measly 5.5 hour flight (feeling silly about worry about it when all of these people are taking FAR longer ones), I thought of my laptop and my MP3 player. Then I realized that I ALSO have a portable DVD player that would fit very well in my laptop case, too. Think that's too much for a 5.5 hour flight?

I say, if you don't mind lugging it, take it.

The lady speaks the truth! I prefer traveling light. But if you don't care about lugging it around and through the checkpoint, take it!

I'm a reader, so I'd have to add a book to your list. But music and movies are great ideas! Hey! Take a camera so you can take photos and add them to your trip report! ;)

See if your local library has a NetLibrary account. If you have a library card, you can download audiobooks to your iPod or other player. Great way to catch up on your reading!

I have flown long haul around 18 times now UK to USA and UK to Mexico.approx 36 long haul flights.

Long haul flights pass suprisingly quickly. Usually there are 2 meals during the flight and snacks such as ice-cream with the movies. Drinks are brought round many times.
Usually there are seat back tv's or entertainment systems that provide a variety of films, air maps and games. The Virgin ones have a radio programme to help you relax in the air.

I pass the time people watching listening to music and trying to sleep so I don't feel the jetlag quite so much.

The thing with the long haul flights is that you cannot sustain high anxiety levels for long, you know you are on that plane for 9 hours or so and somehow you just settle down more quickly than on the short haul flights.:)

I usually have the meal, then watch a movie (two if I am lucky enough to not have seen them) then read my book. After all this I usually start dozing (by product of xanax for me).

As for plane sizes. I know if you fly CO from EWR to some shorter distance european locations you may end up on a 757. Personally, unless I am in business first, I would not be 100% comfortable on a plane the size of a 757 for that long. But, my discomfort stems from claustraphobia which is less of a problem on the 767/777 and A33 34 series planes.

Magazines, music and munchies.

Am I only the one who walks on a plane and am ready to devour anything?

I have found that, as Lynda said, time can pass quicker than you expect, between the movies, meals and naps.

Good for you to now be able to take advantage of these trips. You and your company benefit.
