On a airline...

If you were talking to the decision makers and telling them what you wanted on a airliner... what would it be??

Me? I like the in-flight entertainment systems. But I would want to go a step up and have a nose-cam and tail-cam, and ALSO a Virtual Reality system built in.

I like the in-flight thing too. But I would truly love a pilot to sit next to me and talk me through the whole thing. Since, that's probably not going to happen I like as much info. filtered to the passengers as possible.
And I like when they don't cram people in. Roomy seats would be a lovely thing. I'm so short. How do you tall folks stand it???

Same as Monica. PILOTS :ray in the seat next to me. I would also like to be able to see out the front (some type of camera mounted on the nose as an option on the in-flight entertainment).

Honestly - you are outta control!!! Some day, I'm gonna get a huge room filled with pilots and invite you over. Just to see the reaction!

I've been lucky enough to have been able to eat meals with two different pilots, and I was astounded by the fact that they use silverware, they chew their food, drink whatever's in front of them and talk just like normal people Up 'til then, I hadn't a CLUE that they were real!!! :rotflmao

My poor hubby, after listening to me rave about flying with Ray and dinner with Ray and lunch with Ray finally said to me, "How come no one wants to have dinner with an electrician??":rolleyes So I let him take me out and buy me dinner.:lol

What was the question? Oh, yeah --- me too with the cam things. That'd be great!!

Also, Mon, my poor 6'5" son would LOVE to tell you how much he loves to fly in coach! He usually sits in the aisle, if he can't get the emergency exit row seat. Like he says, "I hafta fold myself in half to get semi-comfortable". Poor Nick.:sigh

Pilots are human?????????? Say it isnt SO! :shocked

Deb - this would be me in that room:
:ray :ray :ray :ray :ray :ray :wired :ray :ray :ray :ray :ray :ray

Tell your hubby that I currently need my whole house rewired so I would LOVE to have dinner with an electrician right now!!! The lovely guy that lived in our house before us decided he was the ultimate Mister Fix It and wired about 80% of the downstairs (1600 sf) onto ONE breaker. UGH! Don't get me started on his other genius projects (like PAINTING the bathtub with glossy paint and stuffing holes in the wall with paper towels then painting over them).

I know I could never have it, but I'd settle for guarantees. If I could have a guarantee that I'd arrive safely, I'd fly all the time. If I could afford it, that is.

But if we're going for fun stuff, I'd want La-Z-Boys for seats. Something I could recline and really relax in. And cookies. Warm, soft chocolate chip ones, and lots of them. With Earl Grey tea to dip them in.

Having worked in many contruction fields most of my life, I have seen some crazy stuff. BUT- he painted the tub??!!!! ahahahahahahahahh I could see how this would make it look nicer, but it would flake after awhile. Is it slippery?

Are you serious about the walls? He painted over paper towels?

Yes, Jeff. He was obviously trying to "rig" stuff to sell it. He PAINTED the bathtub and bathroom counter with glossy paint. It LOOKED like it was a regular glazed tub until the first nite in the new house with my daughter in the tub. She started yelling "HEY SOMETHING's WRONG HERE!" We had to go in and literally peel and scrape the paint off the tub revealing the 60's blue tub underneath. The bathroom counter is now chipping to reveal the pink marbly tile underneath.

And YES on the paper towels. Thank heavens we got the house at a foreclosure auction for about 60% of its appraised value. We got a house in a GREAT neighborhood for cheapo. We fix things one by one as we can afford it.

Can you say - all I want for Xmas is an ELECTRICIAN??

I wish this dream flight -- it really happened! -- would happen again.

One time on a United flight, on channel 9, the first officer spent a long time talking to us! The channel is usually just for letting passengers listen in on pilot/ATC communication, but this first officer took the opportunity to gab with the passengers listening in. He started with something like, "If you are listening to channel 9, I figure you're interested in details of flight, so I thought I'd talk to you about this one." He went on to describe all kinds of things, from how the things some people worry about can't happen to how weight affects takeoff and landing, telling us what we weighed when we took off and what we would weigh when we landed. It was information overload, but how great it was to have my FO talking into my ear about my own flight! At one point, there was a ding or a buzz or something, and he went off for a second and then came back on, saying, "If you're wondering what that sound was, it was a flight attendant calling us with a question."

(When I told my brother the story, he laughed and said, "Yeah, I can imagine what the question was!")

Anyway, it was amazing; I've never heard anything like it since then, and I didn't have an opportunity to thank him because I had to make a tight connection, but I did send United an Email to commend that FO. Wouldn't it be great if the nonflying pilot did that for us on every flight?

Have been on a couple of flights with the front and rear camera's. I found it a bit disorientating with the fast moving clouds etc! Can't remember the airline?? Think it was an English charter company but not sure.

Captain Ray would be great!!!! followed by more room in economy!!!

Parachutes? :shocked Kidding! Like I would ever have the guts to jump, even if it was a good idea...

I'm going with "bigger windows." Having flown on both commercial and private planes, and having taken a few flying lessons in a Cessna 172 as a teenager, nothing beats great big windows. I understand that the Boeing Dreamliner is going to have windows that are 40% bigger than those in the rest of the Boeing fleet. Can't wait!

Internet would be the best on an airplane. You could surf the web, listen to music, watch a video, or chat with FOF friends!
