I am going to europe in 10 days and I am a very nervous flyer I was wondering can we have a thunderstorm over the atlantic ocean?
(I flew during a tornado watch once and it was one of the scariest moment of my life the main reason why I am scared of flying)

What was that like? What happened that was scary? I've never flown during a tornado watch.

it was like being in a rollercoaster the flight was short (detroit lansing MI)
but intense I remember that many people were praying
I still dont understand why the pilot decided to fly anyway...

Oh, I've considered flying that stretch too, as Lansing is more convenient for me than Detroit. But...I've always ended up renting a car in Detroit and driving. I think that flight is only, what, 45 minutes? So, you probably are at a lower altitude than you would be for a cross country flight, so could be more likely to encounter turbulence, depending on the weather.

I had a flight like that once on a short hop between islands in Hawaii, and that spooked me too. It's taken a good while to get over that. I hope that having more "tools" at my disposal now, I'd be less likely to react as strongly should I ever have a flight during a tornado watch. I'd like to think I'd be focused on taking photos out the window, and looking to see if I could spot a funnel cloud, and take a picture of it...

I don't have much experience flying over the Atlantic, so I haven't really paid much attention. I'd think it's possible, but the pilots have radar and can see where the thunderstorms are, and avoid them.
