hello everyone!
It has been a while since I posted, but I have been reading up on some good advice from you all.
My trip to Switzerland is coming up in two weeks, my anxiety is at all time high! I was fine up until a couple of weeks ago. I know this is probably the worse time, the actual day of flying I will feel better.
The lenght of the flight is 11 hours :cry
I am taking xanax, some stuff to read, music etc... my husband is as terrified as me, what a pair we are!!!
We are flying with Swiss on an airbus A330, they retired the MD11,,,, is there much difference between the two?
Can't wait to go and see my family for X-mas
:hail this will be me when we land.....

Hi there,
I'm in the same boat, will be taking a 13 hr flight to asia in about a week and a half. I'll be thinking of you and your husband. Maybe we can get through this together!
Different flights but same skies!

hi!
wow 13 hours.... I think that one helful tip is to divide the time and not think of the whole 11 or 13 hours. I think I will try that and see what happens.... have a great flight, same skies indeed.:airplane

Aurora,
Don't worry (I know you will but that's ok too) we'll be here for you.
Regarding the A330, It's a good airplane... nothing to worry about. There's nothing wrong with the MD11 either, but it is being retired by most airlines are are the similar DC10 and L-1011. If you want to see mucho pictures of the A330, I would suggest you go to www.airliners.net and do a seach. There will be pictures there of every corner of the airplane, inside and out. It may help to de-sensitize you a little bit as to what to expect when you finally see your bird.
I would also encourage you to pur over these boards for any posts you find particularly helpful, and then print them out and take them on the plane with you. Who knows, it may help to have some of Ray's posts there with you.
As far as the anticipatory anxiety is concerned, I'm not sur what to tell you other than to offer that we have all experienced that roller coaster, and it's NOT FUN. I'm sure you've read this before, but just try to focus on all th fun things you're going to do and the new experiences you're going to have AFTER the flight.
Take care, and hang in there!
Scott

Hey, I want to join this long flight group...:grouphug I just got off the phone with Delta(they sent my daughter's ticket to the wrong address). I spoke to the agent who takes advantage of her free travel and flies everywhere. Tokyo, Hawaii, etc. I hung up the phone with a sense of I want to be like her and felt excited instead of nervous. I'm sure I'll get nervous again but I'll just hound people here(right Deb),look over Ray's book. I also print out the posts I like. There's such good advice here. I think the idea of breaking a long flight into manageable segments is helpful. In terms of anticipatory anxiety---there was a very good post recently on this. Worth finding and reading over. It's on this page. One of these days I'm going to learn the Mark trick of giving the link...
Anyway, it made me feel better to know we're in this together.

Count me in, too!
On the 26th were flying from Tampa to Stowe, Vermont. Taking Jet Blue with one stop in New York. Time to see snow again...being a native of Florida. Looking forward to third flying adventure of the year...really! :hyped
Except maybe going from 80 to 0 degrees in 5 hours! :think
