You fly a lot, right? You and 'the boys' are always zooming around the place.

I just booked my flight to LA. I don't want to go. I need words of support.

Tell me that I will be okay!

GAWD, I hate this fear. It is not only debilitating but immensely humiliating!
:sigh :nono :( :banghead :cry

Beth!

You'll be fine. I love California lots and lots. Heck, Mark and Jeff are there so look at it like you are flying towards friends.

The views are outstanding too and every time I have flown out except for one I have had crystal clear weather and we could see the gorgeous scenery.

You are on a Continental 737-800, right? Hey, no worries there. That's what my buddy Capt Bill flies! Maybe he'll be on your flight. He's a great guy and I'd fly with him anywhere. Bill how about a buddy pass to HAWAII??

On flights over 4 hours you'll have a meal and a movie. How fun is that! Go out and buy Steve Birnbaum's official guide to Disneyland and bring it on the plane. Read it cover to cover! Super book (dont waste your time on the unofficial guide) and quite a distraction.

Also, remember you are flying over land the whole way and past zillion airports so if anything does go wrong you are just a few minutes away from being able to land.

Hugs! You'll be fine. We are finalizing our tour schedule now and it looks like I will be West Coast bound in Feb and May so far. :)

Thanks Kelley. This really comforted me! I can imagine each control tower gently 'passing' us off to the next one. This is a good image to keep in my head.

I may meet the pilot this time. I didn't on my last trip because he was in a bind since whomever was supposed to clean the inside of his plane from the last flight did not and he was running around trying to pick things up.

p.s. One county east of here has just been put under a Lake Effect snow warning - 10 inches. I tell you, nobody should live here.

Hey Beth,

I just checked the weather in Anaheim and it is a frigid 63 degrees and clear skies.... :) I bet some people may even have long pants on today instead of shorts!!

Disneyland is one of my favorite places. Every time I go I have to ride the Matterhorn and scream at the Abominable Snowman every time we pass him. I doubt I'll be able to go to DL for awhile so I need you to go yell at the snowman for me, okay? :hyped

I am a bit north of LA (400 miles or so) but I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt today and it is actually a very chilly 60°F:wired . It is always warmer down there.

I couldn't even tell you what Lake Effect snow is. It did rain here last week and the news stations all had their "storm trackers" running around looking for dangerous puddles and fallen tree branches!:D

So, enjoy LA while you are out here! Say hi to Mickey.

Nature's cruel, cruel joke.

In a nutshell, the warm waters of the Great Lakes and the cold air aloft make clouds that dump snow on us. Not just little bits of snow but TONS of it. Since there is no short supply of water in the lakes, the snow keeps coming and coming and coming. It comes in narrow bands off the lake so that one area can get 12" of snow and 3 miles away gets a dusting. I live in the west end of town and we tend to not suffer from lake effect as much as the easties do. HOWEVER, I work on the east side of town.

As I look out my office window right now, I can barely see 50 yards away and we are having wind gusts of 50mph. The snow is coming in in heavy bands that are called 'squalls'. That is intensely heavy snow. I'm gonna sneak out of here early today. I live 18 miles away. My all time record for a snow commute home was 3.5 hrs. I hope to make it in under 1.5 hrs today.
