In our continuing effort to get the word out, I am interested in how folks found Taking Flight.

So if you can just reply with a note explaining how you found us... I would appreciate it.

And for the fun of it... even the veterans can speak out... if you are a charter member... (joined when we started) let us know that also.

I will kick it off...

Me??? Charter member... a rebel... just decided I start a website and forum about The Fear of Flying. I was so thrilled to be going places again... I wanted to spread the enthusiasm!

Hi! I found your site when searching for support forums last fall before my Christmas trip. I found what people had to say here very helpful, and have since been "fear free". I do get nervous thinking about upcoming trips (Mexico, baby!), but not as much as I was.

Thanks to everyone. THis forum rocks!!

New to the site about 2 months ago. I Googled fear of flying and that's how I found you. It's helped me prepare for my upcoming flight and I'm almost looking forward to it - almost!

I googled 'fear of flying, forum' and this was the first entry on the page. I had a look around, was impressed, and registered.

 I Googled "fear of husband flying," then registered and made it all about my husband getting his pilot's license and me wishing the whole thing would just go away and I could happily go back to avoiding flying altogether. Obviously, I picked the wrong website.

My husband didn't stop flying, I fly with him, our relationship around the whole issue has vastly improved, and funnily enough, my fear of commercial flying is morphing into the odd thought that I wish I could be getting on a 737 every time I step into the Cessna.

Thanks again, everyone!

I innocently made a post on the "other board" having to do with patriotism on July 4th. It stirred up an amazing discussion that shocked me and made me never want to return. Then Mark began this board and I was oh-so-grateful. Been here ever since!

Jean, who happens to be patriotic. Hope that doesn't offend anyone here.

Ironically, I think I found this site from the non-mentionable site you detest. I know I found them first, but liked you guys more.

After a bumpy flight in Dec 2004 I decided it was time for me to learn more about flying. I searched for Italian websites, with no big results.

Then I googled "fear of flying" and found Capt. Stacey's online course. I completed the course and joined also the message board. On the main page there was a link to Capt. Ray's book, and on his page there was another link, to the old TF website. And on the old TF website there was a link to the new one. Thanks to all those links, I arrived here in April 2005! :)

I searched for information on flying anxiety, so I could get an idea of what sorts of questions/concerns my friends and family might have--but not be telling me--when I took them flying. (F'rinstance, can you believe I used to have no idea that turbulence was a big deal to people?!)

Anyhoo, that let me to the Forum That Shall Not Be Named, and then to here!

Although I can't remember exactly, I believe I googled "fear of flying" and this forum eventually came up. I had researched some other websites, and this one seemed the friendliest and most open. So Google is probably to thank. Gosh thanks they gave it to me b/c this place is a jewel. Although I haven't met anyone here in person, I like to think I have some friends rooting for me when I get on my next flight in April.

Just bad luck, I guess :)

Actually, I don't actually know, but does anyone know how I get out? (Don't answer that  ) I knew about the other forum with the wally who has never heard of BMI (because they are only the second largest full service carrier in the UK, and a member of the Star Alliance to boot) so therefore they are unsafe  .... and then on one particular flight from Gatwick to the centre of the universe (Manchester) I found myself in an awkward situation when, during takeoff roll, both my seatmates simultaneously started praying. Did they know something I didn't? I didn't know what to do, whether to say anything or not ... in the end I didn't. So I had to find out the correct course of action, which led me here, probably through that other site. So I actually came out of the goodness of my heart, and stuck around because I love you loonies so much.

New here...

I was searching for fear of flying forums in February in preparation for a trip to Punta Cana (EWR to PUJ). Unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't get my passport in time, so the trip was cancelled.

Now, I'm flying EWR to ORD on Wednesday for work. Just here to get some reassurance.

...from the Site Which Must Not Be Named, which I found from google.

I actually had decided to just not post at all (or read) anymore when the mass exodus occurred. Then I had some flights coming up and wondered where all the fun people were. So I emailed Ray, and because I am so cool and special :hyped: , he emailed me back and sent the link for this site.

I like to think that if I had not been C&S :hyped: , he might have sent me some other link...to somewhere else.

I started looking for resources on the Internet (via Google) back in 2003. I purchased a number of different fear of flying programs, tapes, CD's, etc. from different websites and Amazon.com, and lurked on WebMD's Anxiety Board and SOAR. I'd considered posting on SOAR, but was in the midst of biofeedback therapy in San Diego. I realized that discussing other programs and approaches besides SOAR wasn't really welcomed there. I could understand that from a business perspective, but not from a scientific perspective.

I did do the SOAR program, and will always be grateful for the original "meet the pilot" letter, and for some of the insights and tools I gained there. As a lurker there from late 2003 through the fall of 2004, I felt like I "knew" the group who eventually left and started this board, and their posts helped me tremendously as I prepared to take that first flight in June 2004 (after being grounded for 13 yrs). I continued to lurk here for quite awhile before deciding to post (as I mentioned on another thread, when Courtney flew to San Diego and requested info, and I realized I was the only person on TF living in San Diego). Oh...I did write a long letter to Capt. Ray when I purchased his book (before I had started posting), and he wrote back a long encouraging letter which was greatly appreciated...and he suggested I start posting on TF too. Thanks, Capt. Ray!

I miss Huey! :(

I wasn't banned from SOAR, but I'd already left before all the drama really started. But it was an old SOAR pal (Jackie, but I can't remember her screen name) who told me about the blow-up and subsequent forming of this site.

Huh. I guess I never really knew that, I just stopped going there. Don't think I was banned, but I vaguely remember posting there and getting a not so cordial response...

Ah...this place is way more fun anyway, much freer and happier and friendlier and tolerant.

I at least still lurk here and every once in a while post when something strikes me, but honestly, I never even bother going there...
