I was contemplating seeking counseling for my fear of flying. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or has any input??

Hi, smiths7!! :)
You're getting some good responses on your other threads, so I thought I'd jump in on this one. I am one of those who got enormous benefit from going to a therapist--actually two of them in different parts of the country--when I made the decision to really work on my fear of flying.
If you like, you can read my story by going into Resources on the main TF page and then to Testimonials. Mine is one of four testimonials there.
My recommendation would be--should you decide to pursue this--that you find a therapist who specializes in anxiety. There are some really whiz-bang strategies available for reducing anxiety, and they can work fast once we have an understanding of what phobic fear really is. This helps to build the faith and commitment needed to embark upon a path out. One's flights become part of the path; I like to call them 'workstations'. :)
It does take work, and it takes some courage to do the work, but it is not unreasonable courage. As Mark likes to say, "it can be done".
You can do it. A specialist will cut to the chase and you'll do it faster, so...sure! Go for it. There's no shame. The money is worth it, and it's not a long process, either.
For starters, have a look at www.anxieties.com (http://www.anxieties.com) . This is the site owned by Reid Wilson, one of the two shrinks who got me onto the path. He's in Chapel Hill, NC.
