Flashy magazines (as many as I can squeeze into the bag)
Gum
Pretzels/crackers
Water
Plastic bag (in case I need to :barf , which has not happened yet, thank goodness)
Portable cd player

Hmmm...good question. I take my laptop on board and I pack the case it's in with the following:

Ipod
Neck pillow
gum
tums
rescue remedy
xanax
ibuprofen
antibacterial wipes
halls mentholyptus
large pashmina
a small bottle of rum
Luna bar
emergency kit in case my luggage is lost including a tee shirt to sleep in, deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisterizer, those oral b tooth wipe things, floss, and q-tips

I'm developing great upper body strength as a result of heaving it into the overhead bin.

All the best,

Ice

Gee, and I thought I was well prepared! My goody bag pales in comparison.

I always take Rescue Remedy, whether I've got Xanax or not.
M&Ms, usually peanut butter
a book, which I never ever read because I'm gawking out the window
sometimes a magazine, something like Cosmo
and a must...a pen and a tablet
I also have my journal with me always, because I carry it in my purse.
And I've noticed a lack of barf bags on recent flights, so I always take a bag with me, just in case. I've never thrown up on a plane, but I just know that it's going to happen on the flight when I'm not prepared.

I take all of what everyone else already listed BUT include the following, which I think are my personal "bests".

Nose spray - actually it's called Baby Ayr - a gel that keeps your nose moist (nasty dry cabin begone!)

And (my best yet!!) Those new ThermaCare heat thingies. Get the one for your neck (it's the smallest), and it gets you so warm and relaxed, it'll make you nod off. And it lasts for 8 hours. And it prevents that neck crick thing that happens from or during a long flight. Can't flight without 'em anymore.

I carry a dvd player, a full season of "The Sopranos", and plenty of 5 dollar bills to buy beer. 5 bucks a beer!!!!!!!! for a can!!!!!!!! Last time I flew, i ordered about 8 beers at 5 bucks each. The nice FA gave me the last two free and politely told me they were out of beer after this round. :cheers

Man, you guys travel in style!

I usually travel light:

My Ipod: 1900 songs (and it's not even half full!)
A book: For some reason, I only read non-fiction on commercial flights.
