I know..I'm always posting articles..LOL. I'm not flying anytime soon, so I have no flying fears to discuss at this time.
I found this lil ditty in today's NY Daily News:
That Water's Just Plane Nasty :eek
Don't drink the water - even on the plane that's taking you to the exotic vacation destination, the EPA said yesterday.
Nearly one of every eight passenger airliners tested by the Environmental Protection Agency carried drinking water that fails agency standards because it contains coliform bacteria, the agency said. >D
EPA enforcement chief Tom Skinner said of 158 planes checked, 20 tested positive for total coliform bacteria, and two planes tested positive for E. coli bacteria.
"This is something that needs further analysis, but also immediate action," Skinner said, adding that the EPA will begin further testing in a few weeks. :x
There are no reported cases of illnesses from aircraft drinking water. And there were no adverse health effects found in the EPA study or any other Federal study, for that matter, the Air Transport Association said in a statement. :rolleyes
I myself don't drink their water..only the liquor :lol
Bottled water is my best bet !!

Wow, I wonder if that includes the ice too?!? :x
Yeah, on second thought, I 'd best stick to the wine! :)

Yeah..I will most likely be passing on ice as well.
Who knew that drinking water on the plane could be so hazardous...:eek

I've heard about this before. They say not to drink the coffee either since it is made from the tainted water. I'm usually too nervous to drink or eat anything on the plane anyway!

You learn something new everyday. I wouldn't even give it a second thought to drink the water, tho I would only have it as ice in my drink as I am usually too busy thinking the engines might give up or a wing will fall off! :rolleyes I know, I know - daft, but fear makes me that way! :lol

We have a RV, and in all the publications it says not to drink the water from the fresh water holding tank, unless you flush it out on a regular basis. Seems the small amount that gets left at the bottom of the tank can go bad?
A friend of mine's son got very sick from drinking water from the fresh water tank of their RV.
Aircraft have fresh water holding tanks also just like a RV, so I guess that it is the same theory...

The ice arrives in bags though and is not "frozen" onboard from the plane's water supply. Ice should be fine on the plane (in Mexico, though, that is another story - avoid ICE in Mexico!!).

Who would actually drink the water from the faucet on a plane? For that matter, who would drink the water from the faucet of ANY public bathroom? Apologies in advance to anyone who does this, but it never even occurred to me to do anything but wash my hands in it.

lol.. I was just going through past threads and remembered how I thought this thread was about alcohol. Do any of you use alcohol to get by when flying? I know it isn't the best thing, but its my method.

Jeff,
I wrote this limerick for Spiff last spring but it seems an appropriate suggestion for you, too:
The benzodiazepines all
Will lessen our fear of the fall,
But no other med
Stops runaway dread
Like sodium thiopental!
...otherwise known as 'Pentothal'. Now, o'er there on the other board across the galaxy, MP and I had a chat about a company called "EZ Board Medical Travel Specialists".
Maybe you should give them a call before your next flight!

I've never tried alcohol to get through a flight; I don't really like the idea of "using" alcohol at all, but I also don't like the idea of using medication. And weighing the options, I figure alcohol is probably better. I took Xanax last time I flew, and it didn't really do much for me, so I figure I need something like Valium, something that would really knock me out, to help me. And I really don't like the idea of something knocking me out, because then if I DO need to slide down the big slide or something, I want to be able to do it. BUT, alcohol is cheaper, easier to get, more fun, and hey, if I could find my way home after a toga party in college, I could certainly find my way down the big slide.
Maybe I said too much.
