Hello all...

Just thought I would share a bit of information with you. :)

Most all of you here know I've had a very hard time getting my sorry self convinced that flying is safe and something that, as they say around here, "Can be done."

My major turnaround started last September when I paniced due to weather and would not fly to Philadelphia as I had so planned. I was bigtime let down in the days that followed. So much so that I decided to see a therapist. I've worked very hard, learned a lot since then, and built a foundation of confidence to the point I don't burst into tears when I see a plane now. I've went to the airport frequently, preparing myself to fly again this coming Feb. Right now, I'm doing fine. Looking forward to it actually.

Now, getting back to my reason for the post. Some of you know that I applied to MTSU's Aerospace Ed. Dept. Well, I got my letter back from the university and just wanted to let you guys know the results. :)

I took a pic with the macro feature and I'm hoping you can read the news!

Thanks everybody for all your help all this time on TF.

Courtney...It's so good to read that you are making solid progress with this. It seems amazing that the mere sight of a plane would trigger tears, BUT...I actually was like this too when my fears were at their peak...and I remember walking around outside the airport with tears streaming down my face and wondering what on earth was wrong with me.

A phobia is really a strange phenomenon....and it is quite amazing when you look back and see that there really are effective ways to overcome it. I'd love to have a peak at what is going on in our brains...and how they have changed after "phobia treatment". I imagine there are researchers studying that already, with all the tools available now for brain imaging.

I strongly feel that pursuing this path of Aerospace Education will have so many positive pay-offs for you in the future!

You guys know I will keep you posted on how this goes when the classes start this summer. The coolest part about the class is after you go through the summer part, then you can pursue an actual masters degree in Aerospace Ed. if you so desire. I can see myself doing that simply because of the fact that an alternate degree and certification could very well get me out of the behavioral classroom and into something fun and exciting.

I am very happy that after all the tug-of-wars I've had with this, something is finally taking shape in a positive light!

Congrats, Barb-ney!

Let me know when you want me to fly over to McMinnville and pick you up for some sightseeing. I think that's your closest GA airport, isn't it?

Jeff...yep, the McMinnville airport is my closest GA airport. I drove out there yesterday to just "watch" and when the planes come in to land...it is very cool! They fly right over the highway with cars passing beneath them. Pretty nifty.

Hey, seriously...when the weather is good enough, let me know and I'll grab my camera and take you up on the sightseeing from the air.

Congrats, Barb-ney!- Jeff

Um, Courtney, maybe AZO has a "teacher-Barbie" in her collection...maybe she'd make you an avatar if you asked her VERY nicely, and promised an Orchid letter....;)

Jeff...yep, the McMinnville airport is my closest GA airport.

It's also where I became a pilot! Yup, I did my Private Pilot checkride out of RNC (http://www.airnav.com/airport/KRNC).

You got it! (In fact, I'm about to post a thread over in "Hanger Talk" on this very sort of thing.)

Hey Jeff...

That is great (never thought I would be saying that)!!!

So you learned to be a pilot in McMinnville? Wow. There is a guy that flies out of there that my husband knows. This guy talks like Elmer Fudd, but everyone says he is an extremely good pilot. You may have met him there. I always thought if that guy could be a pilot...well, heck...anybody could be a pilot. Kind of gives a sapp like me hope!

Really, I'll hold you to that plane ride!
