At airports with one central security checkpoint (such as Denver), the shorter lines are usually the ones at the outer edges, away from where most of the traffic is funneled.
Shh!
Heh heh, I wonder if it would be worthwhile for us to share our own airport's speed-through secrets so our own little band of merry flyers can use them? I'll be glad to start with DEN!
(1) As the author says above, at the Denver airport, you get herded to the central security checkpoint, but there's also a checkpoint near the walkway to the A concourse. Not many people know about it so it's less crowded. No worries if your gate isn't on the A concourse; you can take the tram to concourse B or C. You don't lose any time doing this since the central checkpoint would put you on the tram too.
(2) If you're flying United with no checked luggage and didn't print out your boarding pass ahead of time, you don't need to stand in line to get it on level 6. There's a set of check-in kiosks in the baggage claim area on level 5 that get very little use. Use them!
Do other folks have speed-through secrets unique to their airports? We won't tell anyone, promise. ;)

At CHS there is only 1 security checkpoint for each terminal so there is no way to avoid the line unless you are in a pilot's uniform with a badge.
At BNA it is always a good idea to check BOTH sides because if the Delta/NWA/USAir side is backed up then chances are the AA/SWA side is not. You can walk past the Capitol Grill and see the other security line. Always worth checking out. Also when at BNA on the Delta side try to go in the far left lane - the line is ALWAYS a shorter wait because the screening machine is closer to the front so even though the line is the same length there are less people in it (if that makes any sense)...
Also if you are flying out on a flight before 8am out of BNA - especially if you are on Northwest - then GET THERE VERY EARLY!!! I mean it. Lines are very long and the NWA check in line is always the longest by far in the airport in the morning.

Well there used to be a separate, secret checkpoint at the Las Vegas airpport. It would plop you right out at the Southwest Terminal, and there was rarely more than a handful of people in the line ever.
Sadly, they closed it a couple years back.
Not much help, I know. I just wanted to reminisce. :sigh:
