Oreo Balls

1 package Oreo cookies
8 oz. cream cheese
1 block almond bark

Crush up Oreo cookies into smallest bits you can. Mix in cream cheese until no white is showing. Refrigerate 20 minutes for easier rolling. Melt almond bark according to package instructions. Roll Oreo mixture into balls and cover with chocolate. Cool on wax paper until chocolate hardens, refrigerate.

Hate cream cheese myself, but will pass the recipe on. Have a friend who would love these!

I used to just dip the oreos in the melted almond bark (white and chocolate) and those were yummy.

Paula, you don't even taste the cream cheese. Trust me. All you taste is chocolate and oreo; the cream cheese is just to make the cookie crumbs soft.

It is very important that you know this, because Oreo balls are too good to pass up, especially due to a dislike of cream cheese.

And Jeff, you can joke all you want, but when it comes right down to it, nothing beats my balls.

Sound great but the cream cheese would be too much for my lactose intolerance.:(

If you all carry on this way about cookies I may just try to make some!!

I sorta like your raisen and oat cookies. I also love cinnamon so the sugary cinnamon things sound good. How do I make them>> Recipe please

I'm lactose intolerant too. Don't you have Lactaid in England? It works like a charm for me!

We do have lactaid milk and I can tolerate that. I have tried lactase tablets but they do not work.

Lynda - look for something called "Lactaid Ultra". Those are stronger than normal Lactaid and tend to work for me on most things. Some things - like milk, ice cream and cream based sauces like alfredo sauce I have to not eat at all because no amount of Lactaid makes those digestible.

Kelly I don't think we have them but I will stock up when we come over in Feb. Where do we buy them?? is it a health shoptype thing?

You can get them anywhere. Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores.

Kelley and Lynda, sometimes you have to take them well in advance. My doctor told me that; I guess it gives the lactase a head start of sorts. Try taking one 20 minutes before you eat and another 10 minutes before and it could work for you.

Lynda - the cheapest place to get them would be at Wal-mart or Target. They do sell them at the drug stores (like Walgreens or Eckerds) and the grocery stores (like Publix) but they are much more expensive there.

You may be able to order them from www.drugstore.com (http://www.drugstore.com) as well. :)

I wonder if they would be any good if you used those new Peanut Butter Double-Stuf Oreos?

Maybe we can work out a deal where Lynda sends us effective cold medicines and we'll send her Lactaid. Or that might be drug trafficking.
I don't think it counts if it's gifts. So just wrap them up in some colorful paper.

If they have the good Alka Seltzer with the heart attack inducing stuff (or whatever it was) still in there, sign me up!

Good idea, Erika. Sending illegal items thru the US Postal system is a federal offense. Maybe we can share a cell. LOL

Lynda - if you want some Lactaid Ultra before you come over in Feb let me know and I will send you a box. :)

They have cold medicine that works??? Sign me up! lol

I'll consider the cream cheese balls if I get the urge to "bake".

Still trying to find the perfect chocolate to melt for my chocolate buttercream frosting when I make the cupcakes.

Okay, so I made the Oreo recipe. Except I made a few changes. What can I say? I just can't help fiddling with my balls.

1) Is "almond" bark supposed to have almonds already in it? I just found regular chocolate bark at the store, which was almond-free, so I used that.

2) When I went to get the Oreos, I noticed that they also made a "Cool Mint Creme" variety. I figured that would be more Christmasy. I was right! The results taste like concentrated Girl Scout Cookie.

So I brought them into work. Let me just tell you that the people here in the office are very impressed with my balls. I'm getting lots of positive comments on their delightful minty flavor.

Anyway, thanks for the recipe, Erika! I encourage everyone out there in TF-land to give it a try. You'll wind up with about two dozen, although it really depends on if you like your balls large or small.

Jeff, no, almond bark doesn't have almonds in it. I don't know what else to call it though, because the package doesn't have a product name; it just says, "make your own almond bark."

I wanted to experiment with the Oreos too, but so far Matt has not let me be adventurous. I might try the peanut butter ones sometime.

Yes, men can be pretty cautious where balls are concerned.

*Time out.* Almond bark is that solid white mass of sugar-filled, almond-flavored transfat that usually comes in square blocks or a slab. People sometimes melt it and coat pretzels with it, which makes a delish sweet/salty snack that is addictive. And completely free of double entendres.
