I was on my express bus on the way home last night, and as we were going thru a lil tunnel (right before Brooklyn Battery tunnel [NYC]), I noticed the guy in front of me (he was in the front seat), video taping us going thru the small tunnel. I actually looked over his shoulder and saw the camera, and saw him viewing the cars in front of us. Instead of me telling the bus driver, which would have been the correct thing to do, I said something to the guy himself. I told him what he was doing is illegal..he gave me some mumbled jibe, finally I said if he didn't stop, I was going to call the cops. He stopped, right before we went into the Brooklyn Battery (he would have continued taping if I didn't say anything).

He got off like the 4th bus stop on Staten Island. A few weird things to note, he was with a buddy, and as soon as they got on the bus, the guy immediately took the front seat, and his buddy sat in the back (most friends try to sit next to each other). The guy in the front, actually stood up and located the position of his buddy. When they got off the bus, the guy in the front seat, searched out his friend in the back, and they both got off the bus, rather quickly. Also, they both had on brand new Yankees baseball caps !

I was too scared to call the police myself and too scared at that time to get up and talk to the bus driver. Who video tapes a tunnel!!! Anyway, I did tell the driver as I was getting off the bus, he told me I should have told him, he would have gotten ahold of the property authorities and the guy most likely would have been arrested.

I called the MTA and spoke with the General Manager's secretary. I told her my story..she said she was surprised the driver didn't notice, considering the guy was sitting right there in the front seat. I told her I didn't want to get anybody in trouble, but that all the drivers should be spoken to and made aware of what I saw. She said she will speak not only with the Managers but also with the Union. I also asked her if it was true what I read a while back about cameras being put on the buses for security, she said it is, but it's not on all the buses yet.

Anyway..I just had to tell my story, because I am very unnerved about this. What if I let a potential dangerous person slip thru the cracks !!!!! Why was he video taping the tunnel !!!! Why did he make a big deal about stopping the taping !!!!! This is weighing heavy on my mind. Now I'm scared, because what if there is an "agenda" in the future, and this guy was part of it? I don't know how to feel about this. I'm mad because I didn't do the right thing at that time..I'm mad because I didn't take a picture of him w/ my camera phone...I'm mad for this person scaring me...I'm mad because, how dare he make me feel this way !!!!!!!

How bizarre, I wonder what they were doing?

I didn't realize it was illegal to use a video camera on a bus (why is that, out of curiosity?)

I think you were very brave to confront him! That's probably more than I would have done. It's good that you called though, it sounds like they didn't get what they wanted (thanks to your intervention) so the next time they try it the driver should be on alert.

Let us know if you hear anything more of it!

I dont think the legality is about using a camera on a bus (though I may be wrong) but moreso about filming things like tunnels - anyone know for sure?

Sounds suspicious to me!

Janet, don't beat yourself up about it. You did the right thing by telling the authorities. They will be more aware of things now thanks to your brave actions!

Hmmm, I would be suspicious of anybody in a Yankees hat, being that they are the $200 million dollar team slowly devouring baseball. Now, if they were wearing brand new SF GIants hats, that would be a different story.

Sorry, a little baseball bashing rivalry is a good thing!:)

Seriously, good job on confronting them. :macho :boxer
