View Full Version : Do You Have a Passport?

Surprisingly, only about 1 in 4 Americans have a passport!
I got my first one when I was 21...and have gone through several of them....doing most of my "foreign" traveling in my 20's. I noticed my latest one expires next May, and I understand that due to new rules (see linked article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15840461/ , it may take a bit longer than usual to get them, or get them renewed.
So...I have had my new photo taken...and am off to fill out the application. I was disappointed looking through my current passport to see that there is not one foreign stamp for the last 10 years.
One benefit of overcoming fear of flying....is the chance to be a world traveler again... as Nike says..."Just Do It"!!

I did, but it expired in 2000, and since I was, at that point, in the throes of my FOF, I didn't see a need to renew it. I will, though, as soon as I can afford a trip out of the country!

Amazingly enough, nope. The only time I have been out of the country I have been able to just show my birth certificate and driver's license.
I know I need one. I have siblings in Europe (not to mention Lynda, Kari and Agne!) that I hope to go visit someday!

I have had a passport for quite a few years now.
I've used mine primarily when travelling across the US/Canada border; and even though it is some time away before you have to produce a passport to cross the border by land, I have found that using my passport did seem to make the border-crossing a wee bit easier.
Aside from it's use for travel, I find that it comes in quite handy as a form of Identification when I have to renew other forms of I.D. ie Health Cards, Driver's License, etc.
I carry my passport with me all the time.
But I love the meaning of it.........from a FOF perspective. It suggests to me that I can up and go somewhere at a moment's notice and I like that feeling:)

Yep, me too. That's why I kept mine current even when I wasn't flying...I had every expectation that I would eventually become "ungrounded"! :)

Yep... ever since I was a kid! They are great for holding open and sideways to folks who have never seen one. They think you are FBI!

Why not go ahead and get one now? It's not a quick process (and is only going to get slower), but once you get it, it's good for ten years.
I'm on my second passport. Now that I think about it though, I have no idea where I put it (I had it for FlightFest...)

I got one for the first time this past summer, when my sister took me to Oxford, England for a week. WOO-HOO!!! What an experience! It opened up the world to me. I am eagerly looking forward to my next out-of-country-experience, whenever and whatever it may be!

I got one in 2003 when I went to London. Not sure I'll use it again before it expires though :(

I got my first one this year in prep for my trip to Greece. I have rarely been so excited. It was such a tangible symbol of being determined to beat my fear of flying - and succeeding.
Too bad the photo looks like sh*t.

Ha ha ha. No. I had a 20 hour layover in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

Being so close to a border crossing, I really need to get a passport. By 2008, I'll need one to re-enter the US from Canada. I remember back in the day when your driver's license was enough.

That's why I've never needed one. Canada has always been so easy for us Michiganders.

Yep, on my second one. I find it so much easier to cross into the USA with one. We even have our Nexus cards so we can use the nexus lines and enter the USA using our boat.
