British scientists build a model gut (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061110/ap_on_he_me/model_gut_1)
"With a capacity about half the size of an actual stomach, the artificial gut can 'eat' roughly 24 ounces of food.
"'It's so realistic that it can even vomit,' adds Wickham."

No, it takes a nation raised on British food to even THINK of making an artificial stomach.

   Good one, Rebecca. I can see it now...
Great Moments in Industrial History:
Johannes Gutenberg, massaging his hand after a hard day of copying scrolls: "Oh, if only there were some sort of machine that could reproduce these pages for me!"
Eli Whitney, resting after long hours in the fields: "Oh if only there were some sort of machine that could remove these cotton seeds for me!"
Dr. Martin Wickham, after eating a hearty meal of toad-in-the-hole, jellied eels, scouse, and Lancashire hotpot: "Oh, if only there were some sort of machine that could digest all of this for me!"
