OK, I know I made you look with that one.
But the truth is, I have a confession to make... I do actually get a little choked up during takeoff sometimes.
But not for the same reason many with FoF get that way. I occasionally get emotional over it because it is just that darned beautiful to me. The hum of the engines, the POWER, that feeling of lift on a cool, clear morning. To me, it's better that... um... ok... I won't go there.
Ok everybody, you can begin laughing at me now.
But I'm not ashamed.
I love flying that much, and I hope that many of you who are in the throes of FoF can share that with me someday.

Commercial flight... When I'm flying, it's just FUN!!! But still equally beautiful, if not more so with the more panoramic view. It's actually interesting that it does not have the same effect. Probably because I am busier when flying myself. In my window seat on an airliner, I can just get lost in myself and take it all in.
Ok.. I am officially a sissy. LOL!!

Sometimes I weep when the FA gives me an extra bag of peanuts. It's just... so... thoughtful...
I don't like you anymore.
HA HA.. I guess I asked for it, huh?

Don't feel like a sissy, I do it too.
I get so lost in the scenery and its so overwhelmingly beautiful.
The only flight I haven't made sure of having a window seat was my very first flight when I was little. I was terrified of flying then, but once we took off, I just kept leaning over my mom to look out of her window. When we connected in DTW, I made sure I got the window seat.

Freak.
I know what you mean though. Takeoff is never an emotionless experience for me. Sometimes I get choked up because I'm scared or upset, but if I'm feeling good about the flight, I really get a charge out of it. Like, ha ha, gravity, I am defying you, ha ha fear, you weren't invited on this trip. And depending on where I am and how the weather is, it can be a really beautiful ride.
Taking off from MDW is awesome, once you get out of the ugly part of town and are flying toward Lake Michigan.

Takeoff is exhilirating to me. I'm not moved to tears unless I am leaving someone or somewhere I don't want to but I do usually get a few chills when we actually go wheels up.

Takeoffs and ascents have continued to challenge me somewhat, even though I've been flying happily for a couple of years now. But on my last flight (10 days ago) I actually watched out the window and tried to predict T1 (is that what it's called??) and I DID! And as we lifted off, I got a little teary. In my case, some of that was just being SO happy I love to fly again, but part of it is definitely the miracle of flight itself.
I always cry on takeoff! There is someone like me! It is such a great feeling to fly after years of fear and anxiety holding me back. They are tears of joy and gratitude. I bet that is what it is for you too.

  I don't get so swept off my feet anymore on takeoff as I did when I started flying again, but still... it's sensual!:banana:!! I'm totally with ya on the power and the beauty and the oh-yeah-here-we-go-into-the-sky. I just got back from LA on Southwest a couple of hours ago, and, four takeoffs later (since I left on Sunday), I can report that I had my nose at the window every time, probably grinning, and had this funny little tune in my head that Ray says he hums when he advances those throttles...:hyped:
dum da DUM dum, dum da DUM dum...
