Hi all,

I have a couple questions about flying into PHL. It's only a couple weeks until we are off and running (well, off and flying in this case) and I don't know what to expect upon flying into PHL.

The last time we went to Philladelphia, we made a road trip of it and drove up instead of flying. I was off and it was summer, so we took our time and had a lot of sight-seeing on the way there and back.

This time, I'm at the beginning of school and can't possibly take off to drive back there, so we must fly.

Do any of you know what I will see when we start to fly into PHL, such as landmarks, etc?

Barb-SAN and some of the others here were so great and shared with me some things to look for when we flew to San Diego last February. So, just thought I would check in on this airport as well.

Thanks for any input! :)

Erika is there right now, so she should have lots to tell you when she gets back on her computer. If you want to see what the Google Earth tracking looks like from Chicago to Philadelphia...check out the tracking board as I tracked her flight on Friday. It's the thread "Ernesto, Here I Come". You can always play with Google Earth and fly yourself around the airport, look at the buildings, river, etc. while you are waiting for more answers. I've never flown there, myself (except in my imagination  ).

Now that I finally have DSL, I will download Google Earth and give it a try!

Be forewarned...it's addictive!;) It's the FBO tracking software that works with Google Earth. You can also just plug an address in to Google Earth, and it will take you there. You can zoom in and out, and also use the "tilt" bar to change your perspective and the horizon. Click and drag on the compass circle to rotate the view. It really is some amazing software!

PHL is one of my favorite airports because it is smelly-yummy! Those Philadelphians know how to eat! Not sure which terminal you'll be flying into, but at the D terminal (concourse?), your nostrils are immediately assaulted (or seduced) by the smell of yummy pizza as soon as you walk off the jetway. "Wow! Philadelphia smells GOOD!"

Seriously, I do love that airport. I find it very passenger-friendly, and it really is one of my faves. As for landmarks, I can only think of the Delaware River, which you fly over briefly right before landing. Most of my flights there were as a Phoenix girl, so I loved the view as we descended ... lots of quaint farm houses and estate-y looking places, stuff I never got to see flying over the desert.

Courtney,

Google Earth is a good idea. I don't know Philly well enough to know just what I'm looking at, but honestly, you won't see much but houses and trees. But it is very pretty flying into Philadelphia, especially in the fall.

You'll see the river for sure, and when you see the river, you're nearly there, like Leslie said.

Definitely Google Earth your trip and see what you can see. It's very pleasant though, if you like nature.
