Obviously, he didn't give himself the title. Kari has been very frustrated that he has not become Sir Rolf. He probably thinks that anything less than Sir Rolf would not be the man of her dreams.

He's probably not so much trying to put on airs impress her as trying to prove that he measures up to her high expectations.
