AN OPEN INVITATION TO ALL YOU LURKERS OUT THERE! WELCOME TO A HAPPY, SUPPORTIVE AND SAFE PLACE!
:welcome
Our stats tell us that this very new site, is already getting 1500 hits a day!
If there are 34 of us members so far, and we were to each pop in an average of 5 times a day (high estimate, except for the list owner and the moderators and administrator, who together might total 100 hits), that's still just 265 hits! Who are all the rest of you?? If you ever had any doubts, now you know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
We think that most of the people who peek in on a site like this probably have some concerns about flying on commercial aircraft. Maybe you are grounded and cannot fly at all, or maybe you fly, but with great difficulty, and your flights are preceded by days or weeks of worry, insomnia, stress,
and an endless parade of what-ifs!
We are committed to helping each other become better, more confident air travelers. We are represented by people from all walks of life and at every stage of recovery--from just getting started to long-term recoverees and successful fliers to pilots who just want to help out. We are affiliated
with no fear of flying program, but we can tell you about what is out there that works. We have an onboard Airline Captain who is an expert at advising fearful fliers about every aspect of air travel. We have a great sense of humor!! We have lots of links and recommendations, and we do flight
tracking, too! And it is all for free. All we ask, should you decide to join and post, is that you have an open heart and mind and a willingness to share from your experience of FoF or aviation or any relevant subject.
We encourage you to reach out and join us. You can sign up for a free Taking Flight Board account; it is private and confidential and you will be sent no ads or promos that you do not wish to receive. You can pop us a hello! good luck! and hang around a bit to see if you'd like to hang your hat here. Or if you'd like to just say howdy as an Unregistered User, you can make up a
screen name on the spot and do that. There will be no pressure on you from anyone here to keep posting or do anything you do not wish to do. We will be so glad to know you are there with us as our small community continues to
grow. What it becomes depends on what we--and that includes you--want it to become.
Thanks!

Hi, Mark. It's me, Leslie.
Well, I've thoroughly mangled everything up. I tried to go to the "Help Files" board but it said I needed a special access password for that, so I tried to get a new account, but it told me I need to pay $7 for a global account since I already have a local account, but it DID take the new name I gave myself (LesliePHX) apparently, so now I'm LesliePHX but I don't have access to the Help Files, and I don't think I have a global account, and I find my new name at the bottom of the board linked to an OLD OLD tracking post I made on the other board!
help meeeeeee ...

Hi Leslie!
Welcome! Great to see you here!
The HELP files at the bottom of the page are Admn forums only, so members can't get in there.
There is nothing in them, and I guess that it is there to store gifs, tools, beer, wine ... heck I don't know why it is there. It came with the board!
The links page has most of the help links, and of course Ray's page.
You are most Definitely a member as it shows you as the newest member in the bottom right corner.
I think it is linking your other posts from the other board as you may be using the same email address.
And I like the PHX part. That would be a good idea now that I think of it, to put our home airport at the end of our name. I guess I would be Passenger MarkONT.. ha ha
Well got to get... Airline is coming on!
Again, welcome aboard!

Hey Leslie, so happy to see you here.
Mark, I think your post welcoming people in was a good idea. I'd also like to add my encouragement to people posting here. I hope that people will feel free to post any questions, thoughts or concerns on fear of flying. There's a wide range of people here that one can relate to,get help from or help through your own experiences. So, I don't mean to sound like an advertisement but I hope people feel welcome here and comfortable posting. Monica

I just heard about you guys and decided to try this board. I just today booked a flight from Chicago to Cleveland, so I'm probably going to be posting a lot in the next few weeks.
Hi to those I don't know and hi again to those I do know.

Hello there ... very nice message board. this board is pretty big!
I am a FOF-er ... with a twist.
I am terrified of planes. no doubt about it.
I got few stories to tell (if you are interested) ... and they are coming your way ... :)

...I've just spent a half hour or so over at The Pilot Lounge browsing around. It looks like a neat site, so I registered. My screen name is 'aerobat' over there. I regularly instruct in a C-152 Aerobat with the Sparrowhawk mod to the O235-L2C engine; it adds all of 15 hp., but it is nice in those endless climbs between maneuvers. I have been teaching beginners and basic aerobatics for six years. Five years before that, I busted through a terrible fear of flying to discover that flying is awesome...
flying's a wild and sweet desire;
it captures the soul with a wizard's art;
it crowns us with valor under fire,
and gives us joy and peace of heart!
So, welcome to our friendly support forum! I am sure your thoughts and experiences will be much appreciated here.

Mark,
Thank you for the invitation to unlurk and for this great site. I just found it today and can already tell it will be a great help!
I've been flying since I was a kid and gradually became more fearful as I got older. In 2002, I ended up driving/taking a train back to San Francisco from Memphis while there on business. I was grounded for a few months while I read up and researched. I got back on the flying horse a few months later and started what has become my habit of introducing myself to the pilots before the flight. I flew more than 20 flights last year for both business and pleasure, but was fearful and stressed on all of them.
This year, I've only flown twice - a round-trip from SF to NY. Since then I've gotten laid off and, two weeks ago, my father died after a long illness. (Needless to say, I will not look back upon 2004 with fondness.) This Friday I'm taking my first flight since May - a short jaunt to SoCal to relax, visit friends and cheer up at the Happiest Place on Earth.
I haven't given much thought to flying at all until I booked my flight and now I'm already gearing up for an anxiety attack in a few days. :sigh
So, I'm sure I'll be poking my head in here frequently this week.
Thanks again for this site and the folks behind it and for letting me ramble. :)

OK, I'm not a lurker anymore! I don't really have a fear of flying--I love it! I do get anxious a few days before about weather reports because the local weather people here in the Twin Cities always seem to predict snow or thunderstorms just when I plan to travel. So, I really have a fear of delays and cancellations. But, that's for another topic!

My friend was working with people and having great success in one session with flying phobias, so he put it on a cd. Now people use it one time and no more problem. It's wonderful to hear their stories of how they are free from it. We are not trying to get rich here, we both have jobs. The funds from this are going to make a childrens animated dvd so they don't have to grow up phobic about the dark, dogs, or whatever. the songs will be simple enough to remember and have the technique embedded in them Wouldn't it be great that after one child learns them they can't teach them to another. our goal is to have less fear in the world. We put it on a web site and everyone that has used the technique has released their phobia. This comes with 100% refund if it doesn't release the phobia. www.fearintofreedom.com/ (http://www.fearintofreedom.com/)
