Im going with my three year old son and im mostly afraid of take off. Can someone please tell me if you feel all that speed? Im nto concerned with the banging and the noises, but the speed.

Wow I love that plane. Be prepared that is a smaller jet (still bigger than a Greyhound bus) but quite new and modern. They are perfectly safe so no worries there.
The sounds of flying can make you a bit uneasy if you don't know what they are. If you have time to order Captain Ray's book then do that and read up on the sounds the planes make. If not then just try to relax. Focus on your child. See the plane thru his eyes - exciting and new. Try everything you can not to let him know you are scared.
Meet the pilots. I can't stress this enough. Tell the gate agent and the crew that you are a nervous flyer. There is nothing like a guy (or gal) in that important looking pilot uniform :ray: to tell you that everything is going to be fine. Pilots LOVE to fly and their enthusiasm is exciting.
If you have a digital camera, bring it! Take pictures out the window while you are in the air and of your son on the plane on his first ride. Take one of him sitting in the cockpit with the pilots hat on. Make this FUN.
We are here for you. Let us know your fears or concerns and we will do our best to address them.

Thanks! I just have one question. Do you feel the speed during takeoff or just the pressure?

Hmmm more speed than pressure really. I mean you will feel the forces push you back into your seat but no more than you would if you were at a stoplight in your car and floored the gas.
Honestly, I love takeoff - especially on the RJ style jets (like the one you are on). Don't fear it. Go with it. Take deep breaths and try not to clutch the armrests too much! :)

First of all, welcome to Taking Flight ! :happyguy:
If speed is your main concern, maybe you will feel it during take-off and landing. But while the plane is cruising you will probably forget that the plane is moving. You won't feel the speed, at all !
I suggest you to watch in-flight videos, it's a great help. I will fly soon and I watch one video or more each day.
This is a good one that shows every moment of the flight: boarding, taxiing, take-off, cruising and landing.

I'll throw my "me too" in here agreeing with the others. You feel the speed in the sense that it does push you into your seat, but at least in my experience it doesn't "feel" like you're going outrageously fast. You're just sort of rolling down the runway and then inexplicably off the ground.
And even if the sensation of takeoff does make you uncomfortable, it's only a very brief portion of the flight! :) A few deep breaths and it's over.

I just took the reverse of that flight last week - CLT to EWR on USAir. The ride was short and sweet - just over an hour in the air.
Newark is a great airport - easy to navigate - but get there PLENTY early (like 90 minutes before your flight) to allow plenty of time for check in and TSA security screening. There are little shops past security and a sit down restaurant inside each terminal.

eveninkfades,
I am a current Airline pilot who use to fly the EMB-145 from 1998-2000. I have close to 2,000 hours in this aircraft and if there is anything specific you would like me to address I will be more than happy to.
