Well, arrived back in RI yesterday afternoon from our 10 days in CA. Turns out we brought some of our RI heat with us to CA - sorry folks! Didn't mean for you all to have to deal with 100+ degrees!

Anyway, the flight from Providence to Atlanta was unpleasant. Had a few problems with a delayed flight and then we were asked to switch to another flight that was supposed to leave earlier but ended up leaving even later than the first because even after requesting that I be seated either next to my son or my husband (didn't have confirmed seat numbers for that flight only) and being assured that no matter WHAT I would have one of them next to me we end up being told (as the last passengers to get on the plane) that we are seated in three different rows nowhere near each other - oh yeah, and the best part...they informed me that I would be seated in one of the emergency exit seats and did I feel "up to the job" should there be an emergency. Um...NOPE! Long story short - that flight was a nightmare but not because of the plane ride. I had Captain Ray's book in my hand, was introduced to the Captain and Co-Captain and just kept in mind that any turbulence I was feeling was normal and that I should just calm down and try not to freak. Had a little boy in front of me who kept smiling and winking at me so that made me feel better too.

Flight from Atlanta to San Jose couldn't have been more perfect. Flew in a 757 and there was absolutely NO early liftoff turbulence, shaking, etc. Felt calmer than riding in a car. Hats off to Delta and the captain of flight 710 on July 14th.

flight from SJC to ATL Monday/Tuesday (redeye) was fine really. I was a little nervous at the beginning and just kept repeating "This is normal. This is safe. Planes are made to handle turbulence." stuff like that. ONly problem was in my heightened sense of aggitation (even with a Xanax) the bells that sounded for no smoking, seat belt, flight attendant, etc. would scare the beejeesus out of me and I would jump each time.

flight from ATL to PVD on a small 70 passenger jet was almost as perfect as the flight to CA.

I think next time I fly I will do even better. I had Captain Ray's book/writings in the back of my mind all the time and it really did calm me to understand why/what I was feeling outside the plane and that it really wasn't going to flip over when it had to make a turn. Also, my son would "explain" everything to me (since he's flown with my brother so much and he has played Flight Simulator so much) such as circling around on approach, banking, etc.

I'm happy to be home but I do miss CA and I was proud to tell anyone/everyone who would listen about Taking Flight and how great it was to have the support!

Whoooopeee!!! You're a TROOPER, Michelle!!!! You stood right up to the plate and batted a perfect game!!!

I know just what you mean about the dings. Perhaps they should switch to gentle ocean sounds or rainfall sounds like our alarm clock uses, so not such a startling thing.

That self-talk you had going is exactly what I do in the Cessnas. I wonder if we will get past that. But, it works!

Congratulations and thanks for reporting!!

im beginning to think that delays are a normal thing now that my husband travels for work. most of his flights have been delayed by many hours. im sorry you guys got separated tho.

interesting to hear your report. i have flown out of green before, but never to san jose.
