Inspired by all of the talk of cute pilots in Captain Ray's forum...

Who are your favorite TV and movie pilots (and let's throw in FAs, because there aren't many of them on TV).

My answer: I always liked Brian and Joe Hackett on Wings. Their plane was little and scary, but man were they adorable. As for FAs, I'd have to say Julie Haggerty in Airplane!

How about Howard from the old Bob Newhart show -- Bob and Emily's 747 navigator neighbor who was always barging in on them?

Emily: "Howard! What if we'd been sleeping!?"
Howard: "I saw your lights on from the air."

Leslie:

I remember that one! I always wondered why the producers made him a Navigator and not a Captain.

Mark, I can only guess, but I think it was supposed to be a running joke that this guy who was too dumb to find his way around a street corner would be a flight navigator? That worked, but making him a captain surely would've stretched credulity.

Another TV pilot I remember liking was the captain in a Seinfeld episode who kept kicking Jerry off his planes ... I only saw part of that one, would like to see the whole thing. Jerry's new girlfriend kept making things worse for him by saying, "I'm going to stand up to that captain for you!" and Jerry kept saying, "No, no, please don't stand up for me," but she did, and as a result he kept getting kicked off planes.

Ahhhhh, the Hacketts on Wings. Those guys get my vote!

And for the movie one I have to vote for good old Kenny Rogers (I forget the movie but it wasnt too long ago).

My hat is off to you :tiphat Kelley..you beat me to the punch on the Hacketts. I loved watching that show. Occasionally I catch it on an off channel on cable (think it's Nickelodeon).

Also, I absolutely Love Memphis Bell..the one with Eric Stolz in it. :fly

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about Top Gun.

Val Kilmer as Ice Man gets my vote. Even when I was 10, I knew he was beautiful.

Oh, come on...

Definitely the best pilot is the guy in "Airplane." The one who says, "Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

I'll also take Harrison Ford in all the Indiana Jones movies. When his passenger says, "Can you fly this thing?" and he says, "Fly : yes. Land - no."

Or as Han Solo - !!! Or no - CHEWBACCA is my favorite pilot! He exudes that quiet confidence.
