Just to give y'all an idea of the normal things that happen in our house with six wild kids, ages 2 to 14:
A couple weeks ago, the kids found a weird cocoon-looking thing in the yard. (Last year they found a regular (but very large) cocoon, and a couple months later we had a HUGE moth in our kitchen.) So the kids said "cool . . . wonder what kind of moth is in THIS cocoon?" It sits on the shelf above my son's desk for a couple weeks. Then we get home from church this morning and my son comes yelling through the house, "THERE'S A MILLION BABY PRAYING MANTISES ON MY DESK!!!"
Yep.
Didn't know Praying Manites had cocoon-like shells for all their eggs (called "oolithics").
Didn't know they could fit up to 500 babies in them-there things.
You learn something new every day, by George!
We managed to catch a good many of them and take them outside, but we keep finding a couple more every twenty minutes or so.
I love my job!
