Inspired by Chris mentioning his wife's car...
Does your car have a name?
My answer:
I used to have a Mazda Protege I called Phoebe, but she perished in an unfortunate incident involving a red light and a red car. Now I have a new Mazda Protege named Zoe Zoom-Zoom.

I think naming your car is a sign of youth. I haven't named a car since my Chevy Monza, who was "Sam."
Editing to add: Ever since I started buying Subarus rather than GM cars, I figured "Subaru" was the best name ever and I didn't have anyting to add.

Leslie...
You had a Chevy Monza???
Too cool, so did I. It was my first car.
I don't think I have ever named a car. But I have called them a name or two!

Well, even in my callow youth I never named a car, or any other inanimate thing (but airplanes automatically get names, as in tail numbers). But I was once--when I lived in Seattle--conscripted to paint the name Fuilderbire on a friend's bright orange (yes!) VW bug. I painted it in white Gothic script.
Anybody wanna guess what Fuilderbire is an anagram for? :scratch

I decided I was probably wrong about naming your car being a sign of youth. Probably I quit after the first car because just coming up with "Sam" stretched the limits of my creativity.
I think Debbie's car has a name but I forgot what it is.
Mark, how cool that we had the same first car! I thought Monzas were a lot better-looking than the comparably priced Chevy Chevette everybody seemed to be driving back then (cuz of the energy crisis) and wondered why there weren't more Monzas on the road.

:doh THAT possibility never occurred to me!!
it is 'firebuilder' :fuming

:) I cheated and used one of those anagram websites. It could also be "Ireful Bride."
Why did the VW owner use an anagram, why not just call the Bug "Firebuilder"?

Ha! Ireful Bride would have fitted her just as well, in later years...
As for 'fuilderbire'--according to her, this came out of her spontaneously while a camp counselor (we both worked at the same camp in northern Idaho)...she was telling the designated firebuilders to go get wood or whatever, and the spoonerized alternative was what she actually said. So she took it as her own.

Mark, mine was blue too! Blue inside and out. Medium blue on the outside like yours, and the inside was all light blue -- uphostery, dashboard, I think even floor mats, everything blue ... sounds a little tacky now, I guess, but I thought it was beautiful.
That old ad is priceless! Where do you find that stuff? Did you have the "sleek Hatchback," the "stylish Coupe," or the "sporty Spyder package"? I had the "stylish Coupe." :)
Was yours all blue inside too, like driving in a cloudless sky?
Hmm, Barb, are you sure there wasn't a little hoochbuilding at that camp? I could see me saying "'fuilderbire" instead of "firebuilder" after a few too many cocktails ...

Oh Geez... this is scary!
It was the coupe! And yes it was blue on the inside!
Did your's have that rattle in the trunk, and the stain in the passenger's floorboard?
As for the ad, When you are looking for a photo, go to Google, click on images, and then type in what you are looking for.
You can find ANYTHING... and sometimes things you don't want to find! :shocked

...well, I never saw any copper kettles, coils and the usual sorts of moonshine works there...everyone was on the up and up. I wasn't present when this slip of the tongue happened...
It was a GREAT camp by the way! I went to a staff reunion there in 2000, got another coming up this summer. :happyguy

That is neat Barb that yall are keeping up with each other.
I was a camp counselor for several years during college at a Lutheran Camp in North Carolina. Best times of my life.
I still hear from some of the other counselors, and some of the kids.
One of "the kids" just became a Missionary in Thailand!

Yeah, Barb, I want to hear more about your cats. Do you run a cat sanctuary?
xiknal
12-04-2004, 08:17 AM
techniclly, I am a rescue organization and not a sanctuary...I take them in, rehab them, and find homes for them. But many end up staying a long time, or forever...especially if they are old or have chronic health problems.
