I wasn't going to write about this as it is the epitome of humiliation but I am bored and it may give someone a funny visual.

On Sunday, I took my oldest to a birthday party at an old fashioned ice cream parlor. :blowhorn My youngest wouldn't hear of me actually leaving her at home (over even walking out of the room without her) so she tagged along. The party was only an hour so Mackenzie and I sat in a booth in the back while Lindsay joined the party.

This ice cream parlor is strange in that it has about 3 different levels. Wanting to get a good view of the magician performing at the party, Mackenzie and I sat on the top level. After she finished her ice cream, we got up to pay. I saw her kinda stumble and head for the stairs and I did an instinctive Hail Mary and 'pushed' her back before she fell down the stairs. I knew I would probably fall but thought I had cleared the stairs. Well, I didn't. I ended up falling *ss-first down the flight. :thud I remember praying as I fell, "God, don't let anyone see me." :pray I hopped up and actually laughed because my toddler was staring at me like I had lost my mind. I guess the adrenaline was pumping because nothing hurt at all. We went up front and paid.

Well, there was about 20 more minutes to go until the party ended and the longer I stood there, the more I started to hurt. After getting home and assessing my injuries, I have:

*left knee bruised to a dark navy with a pretty ferocious rug burn
*(pretty sure) broken toe on my left foot (toe is swelled to a shiny finish with purple and blue coloring)
*ripped off 1/4 of my left thumb's fingernail
*entire calf of right leg purple/blue
*same for right knee
*and the worst, I really hurt my right wrist. I don't think it is broken but I'm pretty sure it is a bad sprain. I can't move it right/left (what is that, yaw?). But, there isn't much swelling so I am not gonna get x-rayed just yet.

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I fell that would make that many boo-boos in such diverse locations. And the fingernail ripped off??? How the heck did that happen??? :dunno

When I told my oldest, she casually mentioned she would liked to have caught it on tape! :rolleyes

Hmmmm, when you put it that way - I've had more luck with my feet NOT being on the ground. LOL

Horrid! Like you, I would've been thinking, "Oh, God - how many people are watching me!"

So, flying is safer than going out for an ice cream!

When Dawn and I came back from PHX, we had had snow that day. We all remember how terrified she was to fly. Anyway, we got our luggage and took the shuttle bus to the parking lot. She got off the bus, walked two steps and slipped in the snow/ice, landing on her elbows and really hurting them pretty bad. I said, "So Dawn - you just flew a total of 5,400 miles, incident-free, but you walked 3 steps and practically got killed!"

Um, do me a favor and have someone look at the wrist. Even if it's not broken, it's your HAND - if it's sprained it may need to be splinted or something so it heals the right way.

If it were your toe, I wouldn't care. But you're gonna need that hand someday...

Remember, Spiffy is a physician.

I'm just a layperson, and I know I must be getting old now, talking about "me operation," but a few years ago, I tripped and caught myself with my left hand. For a couple of weeks after that, I had some minor trouble with the hand -- it wouldn't move sometimes the way I needed it to. I figured it was just a sprain and would go away.

My mom nagged me into having a doctor look at it so I did. As it turns out, I had a broken bone (metacarpal or something) and had to have a dang titanium pin put in to be sure it healed correctly. Not the most fun experience, but lots better than losing function in my hand.

Do go see a doc, OK? Like Spiffy said, even if it's not broken, you want to be sure it heals correctly.

Doctors? Oh gawd, I avoid them like the plague. At least when I am wearing a paper gown. Well, I avoid them at work too since they always need something from me. LOL

They are wonderful people and all but I always end up showing parts of my body to them - except for the docs I work with - but there is this one hunky surgeon.....

My 'yaw' is much better today. Still no swelling or bruising on it. I showed it to my friend (a cardiac imaging nurse) and she said she thinks it is okay. Toe is much better - actually kinda itching so I guess it is healing. Bruises? Badges of honor from my ordeal. Rug burn? Hurt like @#%$ when I shaved this morning.

Aren't ya'll glad I share all this info with you?

glad you're mending.

Can't beat your slip n fall, but today, i did get (don't laugh) a real deep nasty paper cut. Right on the pinky, right on the knuckle, and I bled like an SOB all over Judge Borenstein's papers. I'm sure he'll have a comment tomorrow. And I'll have one ready in return. job hazards!!

Long as you're okay -----
