My wife and I will be renting a car while in Vegas over xmas. The prices are absolutely outrageous ($300 for a compact!!!) . Does anyone know a trick for getting cheaper rentals there? I ask because I know there are some Vegas fans here who might know a trick or 3.
Many thanks,
Chris

It's going to be tough over Christmas -- everything's higher. But, I've found the best car rental prices are through Southwest airlines. You don't have to fly them to get the rates. Just go to their website www.iflyswa.com and go to the car rental site.:beep
Have you done the usual searches through Orbitz, Expedia, Cheaptickets and Trip.com??
Let me know how you make out.

I don't know about cheaper rates --hopefully Debbie's advice will help you out there -- but I have a warning about when you rent your car in Vegas: they may push REALLY HARD for you to buy additional insurance. DON'T DO IT. They will tell you that in the event of an accident, although your own insurance covers damages, it won't cover the company's loss of the car while it's in the shop, which can potentially add up to big $$$, for which you will be liable. It's a Nevada law or something.
That is true, but what they DON'T tell you is that the company that issued the credit card you use to rent the car WILL cover that expense, most likely. You can call your credit card company to find out for sure, but I think they all do. I called VISA when I got the warning, and it's true, they do.
The "extra insurance" come-on is pretty much a scam. Say no!

Well, so much for the rental car. We couldn't find anything under $300 for 4 days. Unbelievable. I guess that is what you get for waiting so long. Luckily, the in-laws will let us use their truck to get around town. We wanted to drive to Zion (or is Brice the closer one?) but that will have to be another time.
Thanks for the tips. Leslie, I have heard that one before and always refuse the extra insurance. :)
