Christmas Day is almost upon us...what's the worst holiday gift you've ever received?

I think I'll save my answer till some other people tell theirs; I believe I have a story that can top them all.

I'll be really interested to see what folks say.

I can't think of a terrible gift I've gotten, but I am a really bad gift-giver, almost always choosing something that turns out to be a bad idea. My mom says she thinks I inherited my grandma's gift-selection-challenged gene.

(I believe grandma and I both gave my dad the same really bad present one year ... a footbath. Seemed like a great idea at the time to me. After all, who wouldn't want a machine to wash their feet? :blech )

In my adult years, I learned to turn to others for suggestions on good gifts because I always go wrong when I rely on my own instincts. Will be interested to see what folks say in this thread so I'll know what NOT to give!

Well, I can't beat that but here is my worst gift...

It was a few years ago and we were spending it with my cousins and doing the whole gift exchange thing. My first male cousin opens his gift and it is a new hunting hat. My second cousin opens his gift and it is a new power drill. Very manly presents. I open my gift, from my Aunt, and it is this hand molded dolphin"ish" candle holder thingy in a baby blue color. She explains that it is because I am a "nature boy" that she got it for me. Needless to say, the ribbing still hasn't stopped to this day. Every Christmas, my cousins ask how my candle holder collection is doing.

My "Worst Gift" wasn't really bad, but very, very strange.

The other day I ran into a friend of a friend of a friend, ect. He said, "Oh, I have a Christmas gift for you." I'm like :\ ! I don't even know this guy and he's giving me a Christmas gift!

I opened it up to reveal....A 7 piece delux egg poacher! (I don't mean the cheap type. This thing must have cost $50.00 on sale!!!)

Now, that is a great gift and I will use it, but WOW! That is a very strange and expensive gift to get for someone you don't know????
