Inspired by Deb's misfortune with a paper cut...

What's the weirdest injury you've ever gotten?

My answer:
I broke my arm falling off of a garbage can. It was a few weeks before my sixth birthday, and I was jumping into a big pile of leaves (it was October) at my neighbor's house, off of one of those tall aluminum garbage cans that had been turned upside down. I was around a bunch of bigger kids, who were three to seven years older than I was, so I was trying to show off. I was standing on top of the garbage can yelling "look at me" when the thing fell over suddenly, and I fell to the ground. I looked over at my arm...my hand and wrist and part of the arm were on the ground, and the rest of my arm and elbow were off the ground. Pretty scary for a little kid. But once the ordeal was over, it was a good story.

Ouch! *winces*

Well luckily I've never broken any limbs, but I've had two incidents that would share the title of weirdest injury, both equally stupid in their own right.

I pinched a nerve in my neck and was incapacitated for days by washing my hair. I just threw my head back under the shower to rinse, just like I've done every day of my entire life, and *snap*. It was a horrible pain, I had to move my whole upper body to look right or left for days. My (ex) husband had to dress me and drive me to the clinic because I just couldn't move without crying. A series of xrays and I went home with T3's and anti-inflamatories.

My first job was a cashier at Wooclo (now Walmart) when I was 15. I was ringing through/bagging some particularly heavy rolls of wallpaper, and with one hand I held the roll and in the other I held the bag, and I just dropped it in the bag. The wallpaper roll went through the bottom of the bag and onto my toe. The angle/force of which it hit made me see stars. I don't have a high pain tolerance at the best of times, I stood there for a minute trying to get my wits about me, then I felt my legs buckle and I completely blacked out. I smacked my forehead on the cash drawer on my way down and gave myself a good gash. So I broke my toe, and the gash didn't need any stitches, but I had to wear a surgical bandage for a few days.

I now have a strong dislike for wallpaper :wired

Scooping ice cream out of the tub.

I was using a novelty spoon to scoop, and it had a thick ceramic handle painted to look like a cow hide (it was a gift ... hm ... maybe I should put it in the "Worst Gift" thread). The ice cream was really hard and putting up a fight about being scooped, and because of my own increasing frustration and a miscalculation of angle and leverage, the porcelain handle broke in my hand, cutting me pretty badly.

I was sure I had severed an artery and ran around the house screaming till husband calmed me down and assured me I wouldn't bleed to death.

Jeez, tough one. I have had so many but I think mine would be from sneezing.

I was in the shower and I sneezed. Right after, I had the worst pain in my head I had ever experienced. Turns out I strained a muscle in my neck which radiated along the right side of my noggin. It was llike having a constant headache for a week or so. Pretty embarrassing to explain as well.

Mine would have to be when I broke my little toe in Tae Kwon Do Class. Sounds plausible enough right? Well, I didn't get it broken during sparring or kicking as most people assume. It got broken when my instructor STEPPED on it while demonstrating a street technique. I guess I should have just let people assume the first scenerio instead of trying to explain it over and over and over...

How about this...

When I was five, my mom and I were visiting my grandparents. We were sitting out on the deck and I went inside to use the restroom. Something scared me (I still believe that that house was haunted) and I ran screaming right through the sliding glass door! I covered my head with my left arm. To this day it still looks like I tried to slit my wrist in all the wrong places!
